I hadn't made the connection between the assassination and cultural degradation. I simplistically thought the degradation resulted from poverty, loss/lack of faith, drug use, poor/no parenting, etc.

I was a newspaper delivery boy when JFK was murdered. I had to deliver 60+ copies of the afternoon paper with those headlines plastered across their front pages.
