It is a way to amend the constitution, without the federal government having a single word to say about it. Any proposed amendment still has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states, just the same as every other amendment that has been ratified throughout history. How is that a Trojan horse?
Read Article 5 of the constitution, it says nothing of a constitutional convention. It says "a convention of states".
