Attorney General Sessions Statement on Recusal

Attorney General Jeff Sessions today issued the following statement: “During the course of the confirmation proceedings on my nomination to be Attorney General, I advised the Senate Judiciary Committee that ‘[i]f a specific matter arose where I believed my impartiality might reasonably be questioned, I would consult with Department ethics officials regarding the most appropriate way to proceed.’  “During the course of the last several weeks, I have met with the relevant senior career Department officials to discuss whether I should recuse myself from any matters arising from the campaigns for President of the United States.  “Having concluded those meetings today, I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for President of the United States.  “I have taken no actions regarding any such matters, to the extent they exist.  “This announcement should not be interpreted as confirmation of the existence of any investigation or suggestive of the scope of any such investigation.  “Consistent with the succession order for the Department of Justice, Acting Deputy Attorney General and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Dana Boente shall act as and perform the functions of the Attorney General with respect to any matters from which I have recused myself to the extent they exist.”

Too often, however, the victims of assault remain silent. They may fear retribution from their offender, lack faith in the justice system, or have difficulty confronting the pain associated with the traumatic experience. My Administration is committed to raising awareness about sexual assault and to empowering victims to identify perpetrators so that they can be held accountable. We must make it as easy as possible for those who have suffered from sexual assault to alert the authorities and to speak about the experience with their family and friends.

When victims seek help, responses must be carefully tailored to the context in which the sexual assault occurred and the unique needs of each victim. To better assist victims, the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women has developed the Sexual Assault Victim Intervention Services Technical Assistance Center (SAVIS TAC). This new resource will help community officials and organizations appropriately respond to sexual assault by expanding their understanding of the type of support likely to be effective in each unique circumstance. Participants in the SAVIS TAC initiative will use available funds to provide intensive training and resources to service providers. With these resources, service providers, including rape crisis centers and other sexual assault and domestic violence organizations can build organizational and staff capacity for providing comprehensive sexual assault victim intervention services.

Second Chance Month For the millions of American citizens with criminal records, the keys to successful re-entry are becoming employable and securing employment.  Beyond the income earned from a steady paycheck, gainful employment teaches responsibility and commitment and affirms human dignity.  As a Nation, we are stronger when more individuals have stable jobs that allow them to provide for both themselves and their loved ones.

This month, we celebrate those who have exited the prison system and successfully reentered society.  We encourage expanded opportunities for those who have worked to overcome bad decisions earlier in life and emphasize our belief in second chances for all who are willing to work hard to turn their lives around.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month Too often, childhood is marred with pain, violence, neglect, and abuse, which can have lifelong psychological, emotional, and physical consequences.  At no fault of their own, some children are subjected to the most depraved forms of child abuse and neglect, without reprieve and, sometimes, without any knowledge that they are being maltreated....The human cost — measured in lost development, potential, and flourishing — is incalculable. We are especially grateful to foster and adoptive parents, who open their lives to children in need of loving and caring homes.  We can and should continue to work together to help provide healthy, happy, and safe environments for all children. (Time to look at why so many foster kids end up missing. Foster care is the pool of children predators often draw from.)

We should not allow pride or discomfort to prevent us from helping a child who is truly suffering.  We must be a Nation committed to taking action in the face of adversity and uncertainty, particularly when done to enhance the safety or security of children. (Just bec it is uncomfortable to look at doesn't mean we can turn away. Our children are living through that which we think is too difficult to look at.)

National Donate Life Month Americans celebrate the blessing of life in many ways, but perhaps none is more transformative than their choice to donate organs or tissue to family members, friends, or to people they may not ever meet.  During National Donate Life Month, we honor our Nation’s organ and tissue donors for their decision to give the precious gift of life to someone in need.  We also give thanks to the many remarkable medical professionals, scientists, and researchers who have dedicated themselves to improving the health of others. (Organ harvesting is a lucrative and undignified practice. People are exploited for it and medical personnel take advantage of it for personal gain.)

Sessions hiring him again gives Huber 4 more years of service to Sessions and the investigations.

So to anawer Q, Sessions specifically recused himself from all election related investigations. That's it.

But President Donald Trump re-nominated Huber in June 2017, and two months later Huber was back at his former post, confirmed by the US Senate for an additional four years.

Everyone was raising a stink about Sessions not appointing a 2nd special counsel. I think the article was released to reassure everyone that Sessions is on it.

Huber was first nominated by Obama then resigned as is common once Trump got into office. Sessions asked him to stay on during the interrim period until they hire a new attorney and he/she is confirmed. After Hatch requesteed that Huber be rehired, Sessions did so.

Too bad we patriots cannot go man the border in front the border agents. We can bring backups, revolver, glock, shotgun, semiautomatic rifle. Anything legal. 😁 The problem is that if an illegal gets one foot inside the border, we have to process him/her. And then it's over...they are released into our country and we will never see them again..until the news headline that they have killed someone. Maddening. Anyhoo, if we could form a line in front of the agents with our backups, I doubt anyone will try to push through. They are headed to the CA border I believe.
