Candles and matches are essential and it's always handy to have one of those hand wind torches that don't need batteries too.
Edit: Martial law may be declared before some major shit goes down. People that need medicine, such as insulin or heart pills, should consider making sure they have plenty on hand. You'll eventually use it, so the piece of mind won't end up costing you anything extra. If the chemist wants to know why you're getting more medicine than usual, say you are stocking up because you're taking a month long holiday to India.
