The months-long surge of illegal immigrants on America's southern border has gone beyond crisis mode, and Catholic Charities has been at the center of it.

Church Militant's Kristine Christlieb briefs us on how the Catholic nonprofit may be profiting illegally from the migration catastrophe.

As Church Militant and the Lepanto Institute have been reporting for years, illegal immigration is a cash cow for nonprofit giant Catholic Charities.

Four Republican members of Congress plus the state of Texas are hot on the charity's trail, both claiming some of its immigration activities may be illegal.

Wednesday, in a letter addressed to the organization's Virginia headquarters, Congressmen Lance Gooden and Jake Ellzey of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona and Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin ordered the charity to "preserve all information related to any expenditures submitted for reimbursement from the federal government related to migrants encountered at the southern border."

The Congressmen promise an investigation, saying, "Catholic Charities is violating federal law and regulations, placing migrants and American communities at risk, and subjecting local communities to unreasonable burdens."

NEW YORK – Immigrant advocacy organizations in Texas say they have not yet been contacted by state Attorney General Ken Paxton after he pledged to launch an investigation this week, at the request of the governor, into the alleged role of non-governmental organizations in illegal border crossings.

Joan Rosenhauer, the executive director of Jesuit Refugee Service, said in a statement to Crux that “accusations like this can create a false narrative, which can be damaging, about the work NGOs are doing at the border and ultimately cause harm to asylum-seekers and organizations serving them.”

The same day Abbott called for an investigation, Catholic Charities USA received a letter from four House representatives requiring it to “preserve all information related to any expenditures submitted for reimbursement from the federal government related to migrants encountered at the southern border.”

If true, this is likely an improper use of charitable funds because the funds are diverted from their intended—and potentially unlawful—purpose.

I need to correct something. If James O'Keefe is having a "private" conversation in say a restaurant on a "date" with someone in a 2 party state, then yes he needs permission to record the conversation. The person at the table next to them however does not. They person at the table next to them is in public, and anything that can be seen or heard in/from public can be recorded and disseminated to the public. That's basic first amendment.

Ok so the caviat I just looked it up is if the person recording it such as like on a date is the person recording it, but this does make an interesting argument since it seems the person who is doing the recording has to be participating in the conversation, which in some ways would make James O keefe and his recordings illegal since he is the one who is actually doing the recording and watching as it is a set up and sting. You are correct that anyone else in the restaurant could record them legally as they are in public. Answering your second thought first, I think its a good reasonable question about unreasonable search and seizure to, lie about who you are in a private conversation, causing you to possibly perjure yourself, I think personally both are an issue depending on how they are utilized. Case by case but That is part of the problem with the judicial system you have to fight it just to prove something that they over looked in their poorly constructed law. He is working as a journo but, if he is secretly recording with cameras utilizing actors to go on dates with marks, that seems to be an infringement on the other persons rights. It would also stop a lot of whistleblowers sadly because this is how this information is usually received, but again who is doing the recording that is the problem with the law its all based on semantics and nuance of language to manipulate.

What I am talking about would fall under wire tapping laws. The reason I thought those existed was because of the assumption of privacy in conversations. Now if you were in a public park and using a device to over hear someones conversation and record that, I think you can call that ok, but with the wire tapping laws the way I understand them about recording people, the person doing the recording has to be participating, so if an organization or group is recording will that same protection be granted. Since a group is not an individual participating. Perhaps the public angle gives some loophole also as opposed to maybe recording someone on the phone or something like that.

FIRST ON FOX: A Texas Republican lawmaker is turning up the heat on the Biden administration to turn over the logs of President Biden's mystery Delaware visitors.

 

Rep. Lance Gooden, R-Texas, sent letters to both Biden and Secret Service deputy director Kimberly Cheatle, calling on the pair to release the visitor logs from the president's Wilmington, Delaware home.

 

Biden saw a scandal earlier this year when classified documents from his time as vice president were discovered in his Delaware garage.

 

Gooden requested that Biden provide "information on and public access to" the logs after the documents' discovery in January.

 

The Texas Republican also wrote that given "the vast amount of time" Biden spends at his Delaware home "and the significant allegations of unethical behavior and influence peddling against members of your immediate family, the American people deserve to know who is influencing this Administration."

 

"The Biden Administration has continuously promised to bring transparency and truth back to the government, yet your failure to disclose this information sends the opposite message," Gooden warned.

 

"I urge you to make good on this promise and release these visitor logs to the public," he continued.

 

Gooden wrote that the "White House Visitor Log Policy provides the American people with an unprecedented look at who is lobbying your administration" and that "White House logs have revealed that your senior staff were meeting with special counsel Jack Smith’s top aide just days before charges were filed against former President Trump."

 

The Texas congressman noted that Biden has spent roughly "two hundred days" of his presidency at his Wilmington property.

 

The "public deserves assurance that your administration is listening to the concerns of the American people and not acting in the best interest of lobbyists, friends, or donors," he said.

"If yes, did they have access to locations where classified documents were kept?" Gooden asked.

 

Gooden's letter to Cheatle said the president's "conduct of official business at his vacation property, which has a history of security failures, appears to be unprecedented in recent times."

 

"While I appreciate that every President has the right to some privacy when not in the White House, this President has invited members of the public, who in many cases have paid significant amounts of money for access to him, to watch official business be conducted and has in some cases sought their advice during these breaks from Washington."

 

Gooden asked Cheatle what "determination, if any, has been made to continue making White House visitor logs from the Workers and Visitors Entry System (WAVES) and the Access Control Records system (ACR) available to the public" and whether the systems are "being used for the President's Delaware property."

 

The congressman asked whether the Secret Service is "considering extending these systems, or any other security screenings" to other properties where Biden conducts official business.

 

Gooden also "once again" asked Cheatle turn over the Delaware visitor logs "and all communications or documents between the U.S. Secret Service and the Biden Administration regarding a decision to maintain visitor logs at the President’s Delaware property."

 

Neither the White House nor the Secret Service immediately responded to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

 

In January, Gooden demanded the release of all visitor logs for President Biden's residence in Delaware after the White House revealed that a batch of classified documents was discovered in the president's garage.

I am not saying these women are perfect paragons of virtue.

 

I have a friend who worked as an aide for a state level legislator. From our conversations it was clear every aide in the place knew the dirt about every elected official in that town.

 

They knew who was sleeping with whom.

Who regularly drove the streets while high or drunk.

Who was getting money from questionable sources.

Etc.

 

The point is, there are always too many eyes and ears around for these stupid pols to get away with anything. Most pols didn't use this dirt on their opponents as they were also hiding crap they had done that their adversaries knew all about. Sort of a mutually assured destruction sort of deterrent. But no more!

 

My point with this meme is NOT that GOP women are perfect. I think the character traits that make these people want to seek political office also make them prone to doing stupid things - especially once they get some success and it goes to their heads.

 

My point is that the Dems are seriously triggered and pissed, and the gloves are off. They are not allowing such character flaws to be unreported anymore. They think any of their flaws that are reported in retaliation will get covered up by their willing accomplises in the press.

 

Just like every weird thing that Sarah Palin and family did was put under a microscope the second he-who-must-not-be-named announced her as a running mate - - this now happening to many of the prominent GOP women routinely making the news.

Economic pain will change EU position on Ukraine – Orban

The worse the economies perform, the more people will question backing a war that’s reached a ‘stalemate,’ Hungarian PM warns

 

EU member states will eventually force Ukraine into peace talks with Russia due to domestic economic hardship, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told Kossuth Radio on Friday.

 

“Deterioration of the economic situation in the West will force countries to stand up for peace,” Orban said.

 

The conflict that has lasted for more than a year and a half is affecting the European economy, which “will not be like we want it to be” for as long as it goes on, Orban told the channel's ‘Good Morning, Hungary!’ show. Yet, “war supporters are in the overwhelming majority” among EU governments, he pointed out.

 

If there is something that might force European capitals to reconsider their position on the conflict, it is the further deterioration of the economic situation on the continent, the prime minister believes.Most people in Europe already share Hungary’s position on the issue, which is anti-war, he claimed. Economic setbacks could force these people to “exert pressure” on their governments, he added.

 

According to the Hungarian prime minister, the outcome of next year’s US presidential elections might also heavily affect the West’s general position on the issue. “There are two possibilities: … the presidential candidates will either support the war or announce the end of the war,” he said.

 

Orban said he believes that a US president is fairly capable of “putting an end” to the conflict. That does not mean that Europe should just “wait for a fairy to end the war with a magic wand,” he added.

 

The prime minister criticized the European approach to the conflict so far by saying that “181 billion of European money” has been spent on supporting Kiev but “we have not come any closer to peace.” It is unclear if he was referring to dollars or euros.

 

According to Ukraine Support Tracker data regularly published by Germany’s Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the EU institutions and EU nations together pledged a total of €131.9 billion ($139.8) for Ukraine between January 2022 and July 2023.

 

The UK, Norway and Switzerland, which are not part of the EU, together pledged an additional €23.31 billion ($24.8 billion) over the same period, bringing the total amount of European commitments to €155.21 billion ($165.66), data provided by the Kiel Institute showed.

 

Viktor Orban has long maintained that the West was making a mistake by pursuing military confrontation with Russia in Ukraine. He has repeatedly stated that there could be no military solution to the conflict, adding that the US and its allies need to stop arming Kiev and seek peace with Russia instead.

Texas AG Ken Paxton Acquitted on All 16 Articles of Impeachment

 

Following eight days of testimony from both sides, 30 state senators voted on Saturday to acquit or remove from office Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on 16 articles of impeachment.

 

The state Senate also voted to dismiss the four articles of impeachment that were held in abeyance with a 19–11 vote.

 

"Today, the truth prevailed. The truth could not be buried by mudslinging politicians or their powerful benefactors. I've said many times: Seek the truth! And that is what was accomplished," Mr. Paxton said in a statement after the acquittal.

There are 31 state senators in Texas; however, only 30 senators—18 Republicans and 12 Democrats—could vote on the impeachment articles because Sen. Angela Paxton, the wife of Mr. Paxton, is ineligible to vote.

 

Ms. Paxton was required to attend her husband's trial but was barred from participating in deliberation and voting, according to the trial rules.

 

The 30 senators, who began their deliberations just before noon on Friday, returned to the Senate chamber at noon on Saturday to vote on 16 of 20 separate articles of impeachment. Four of the articles—articles 11, 12, 13, and 14—were held in abeyance.

Disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok said there needs to be a special unit to protect FBI agents from Americans.

 

The FBI recently formed a unit to investigate threats against prosecutors and FBI agents involved in the Hunter Biden probe.

 

“We have stood up an entire threat unit to address threats that the FBI employee facilities are receiving,” executive director for human resources for the FBI Jennifer Moore told the House Judiciary Committee.

 

Moore said threats to the FBI are “unprecedented.”

 

Recall, that Peter Strzok and Lisa Page used the power of the FBI to sabotage Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

 

Strzok was fired from the FBI four years ago for violating bureau policies after he launched the ‘Crossfire Hurricane‘ Trump-Russia probe in July 2016.

 

Peter Strzok opened the counterintelligence probe into Trump in an effort to prevent him from winning the 2016 election.

 

Peter Strzok and his paramour Lisa Page discussed an “insurance policy” to keep Trump out of office.

 

“I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy’s office…that there’s no way [Trump] gets elected…but I’m afraid we can’t take that risk,” Strzok text messaged to Page in an Aug. 15, 2016 exchange, referring to Andrew McCabe.

 

“It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40,” Strzok added.

 

Other profanity-laced text messages between Strzok and Page showed their contempt for Donald Trump.

A number of groups are petitioning secretaries of state to pull President Trump from their primary ballots.==

 

Liberal groups have been trying to drum up support for barring former President Trump from seeking office again since 2021, arguing that his actions on Jan. 6 constituted an "insurrection" that disqualify him from running for reelection as per the 14th Amendment. The group Free Speech for People sent letters to top election officials in all states that year, garnering little momentum for the idea.

 

But recently, as the former president and GOP frontrunner continues to lead in the polls, the idea has picked up steam again, and a number of groups are petitioning secretaries of state to pull President Trump from their primary ballots, while legal experts opine in various media outlets.

 

However, secretaries of state have refuted the idea, insisting they have no jurisdiction over the matter.

 

In New Hampshire, Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, and Arizona, election officials have already shot down the idea. In Florida, one such petition was thrown out when the judge said she had no jurisdiction over the matter. Some have pointed to the U.S. Supreme Court as the ultimate arbiter of the matter, while others have dismissed the idea entirely as a longshot bound to fail.

 

The 14th Amendment, ratified after the Civil War, gave equal protection under the law to all persons born or naturalized in the United States. It added a section that allowed the federal government to punish states that infringed on a citizen's right to vote, and a third section that disqualified those who participated in the rebellion or insurrection against the nation to hold office, unless two-thirds of Congress made an exception for the candidate.

Georgia

 

Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperge wrote in a Sept. 6 op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that this 14th Amendment disqualification was not in line with Georgia law, which demands a different process before a candidate can be removed from the ballot.

He wrote that the entire scheme could only serve to lessen voter confidence.

 

"Anyone who believes in democracy must let the voters decide," he wrote, adding that this was the lesson the last presidential election spotlighted.

 

President Trump won Georgia in 2016, and lost it in 2020, after which he challenged the result and sought an investigation into alleged voter fraud. The contest has now become the subject of President Trump's fourth indictment, which charges him and 18 co-defendants with racketeering for those actions.

 

In the 2018 elections, Democrats were the ones to sue after losing an election, with Stacey Abrams arguing that she wrongly lost the governor's seat to Brian Kemp.

 

Mr. Raffensperger highlighted both challenges as reasons a 14th Amendment petition would, and should fail.

 

"Invoking the 14th Amendment is merely the newest way of attempting to short-circuit the ballot box," he wrote. "For a secretary of state to remove a candidate would only reinforce the grievances of those who see the system as rigged and corrupt. Denying voters the opportunity to choose is fundamentally un-American."…

Ex-US diplomat sentenced for ethics violations

Former Ambassador Richard Olson pleaded guilty last year to various charges of misusing his position for personal gain

 

Richard Olson, a former United States ambassador to Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, was sentenced tothree years of probationon Friday after pleading guilty last year to various federal ethics violations.

 

Olson, 63, entered a guilty plea in court in June 2022 to charges of making a false statement and violating laws related to lobbying the US government on behalf of a foreign country. The former State Department official, who served asUS envoy to Pakistan from 2012 to 2015, had been accused of helping the government of Qatar exert influence over US lawmakers.

 

“US law prohibits senior officials – like the defendant – from representing a foreign government before any federal agency or aiding or advising a foreign entity with the intent to influence the US government for one year after leaving their positions,” a statement issued by the US Attorney’s Office for Washington said on Friday.

 

It added thatOlson had taken “numerous steps to conceal these illegal activities, including deleting incriminating emails andlying to the FBIduring a recorded interview.”

 

Furthermore, the US Attorney’s Office said Olson had accepted and benefited from personal favors from a Pakistani-American businessman referred to in court documents as “Person 1.”

 

Among the personal favors received by Olson while he was working on behalf of US diplomatic efforts in Pakistan was a $25,000 contribution for an ex-girlfriend of Olson’s to pay for tuition at Columbia University in New York, it emerged in court. He also illegally accepted a gift of $18,000 to fund first-class travel arrangements to attend a job interview in the United Kingdom.

 

The Attorney’s Office also noted that Olson was involved in efforts by Person 1 tobroker arms sales from the United States to Pakistan and Middle Eastern countries.

 

Person 1 has been identified by various news organizations, including the BBC, as Imaad Zuberi, a major donor to former US president Donald Trump, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2021, in part for making illegal campaign contributions to Trump's inaugural committee.

Vivek may be difficult to listen to (for some) because he is an energetic, extremely fast thinker and speaker, can pivot on a dime with facts and figures on any number of complex matters, and is amused by attacks that are designed to take him out, among other things.

 

Not all red-pill-deliverers meet the fancy of every listener. That's okay.

 

Even if, as some say, he is a deep state plant - saying all the right things, mimicking and supporting Trump - until he gets to power, so what? He willneverbeat Trump. And while he's at his undercover role (if he is), he is delivering truth bombs left and right in very accessible ways (to some, nomerits?

NEW DELHI: Former US President Donald Trump has heaped praise and offered unsolicited advice to Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

 

During a conversation on Glenn Beck's Blaze TV show, former President Trump showered praise upon Vivek Ramaswamy, a fellow GOP presidential contender.
