This too is a theory that has a certain consistency. The only problem (for me at least) is it moves Rome to Moscow, and takes the Catholic Church at 1k+ years ago as the last of the Rome that withheld. Otherwise there is no continuity. Russia certainly did not withhold between 1917 and 1991, or did it? If not then who? Rome seems to have had it, at least as far as the west goes, the enlightenment was failing and in the 1st 4 decades of the 20th century the RC church was growing exponentially, so had to be stopped (and was, at Vatican 2 when liberals and freemasons enacted "the French Revolution in the Church").

It's old school.
