Some argue the origin of the word comes from the Old Saxon "wærloga", which actually did mean "oath-breaker".

In Germanic culture, oaths were taken very seriously, and were made about a lot of things considered important by the people involved - but what type of oath would have to be broken in order to be called "oath breaker"?

Did that mean you had to have broken any kind, or one of a religious nature? It isn't really clear.
