We have a state television that is so influential that it is considered impolite to call somebody between 20:00 to 20:15 because that is the time the Tagesschau, the primary "news" source for Germans, airs.
It can be done, but unless they do another major fuck up like the refugee crisis, it's gonna be a really slow progress.
Not to mention that the AfD is the reason the FDP is shilling for our side right now. If the AfD is weakened, the FDP will shill for somebody else instead of dragging lefty votes over to the right.
Because Schulz was just a "Verlegenheitskandidat" (political sacrifice) for SPD bigwigs like Gabriel, who realized that they do not have the connections, charisma and vision to oppose Merkels iron media curtain, so they set up a complete nobody like Schulz to take the fall. They realized, albeit too late, that a coalition with the CDU under Merkel is pure poison (the same thing that killed the FDP) and now desperately need to stabilize themselves from the free fall they are in. Schulz is kept around as a public puppet to take the abuse until the dust has settled. Merkel can only get a coalition from weaker minor parties because nobody else will take her and even those two hate her so much that the CDU has to essentially become their little bitch to pay for the coalition.
