in the helicopter were two men with military backgrounds - Mike Green, captain, former British Army was flying with Major Nguyen Thanh Trung, on official duty for the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

 

early reports indicated that he was just a student, or that he was on a "gift sight-seeing tour".

 

the plane was being flown by instructor Jaspal Barha and student Saavan Mundae.

 

based on the flight logs (which were not available when the crash occured) the helicopter took off at 10:14 GMT, flew for about an hour, setting down at approximately 11:15 (back at the airpark), took off again at 11:47:27, and flew for another 13 minutes before being struck by the airplane.

 

The airplane took off one minute after the helicopter took off the second time...11:48:23. it made two big turns, and intercepted the helicopter from behind. the plane climbed to an altitude of approx 3800ft, turned to the same bearing as the heli, and dove directly into it, colliding between 1100 and 1300 feet.

 

the plane was pursuing the heli - climbed above it, turned towards it, and dove...never wavering, never slowing. this was not a stall-out, this was an extreme, blatant, directed attack.

watch flight log. flew up to Silverstone, looped (+) down to right, across main path (+), back to airfield and another small loop (+), landed, waited, took off again, hit from above and behind.

 

read back to my research. 3800ft to 1100ft in one minute. swoop.
