The Y-head/double eagle features prominently in coats of arms (like the Holy Roman Empire). It's featured prominently in old Russian architecture. It also represents the Freemasons.
It could be a reference to the twin-headed Roman god Ianus. Even Hermes had to ask his permission to pass into our realm. He's the gatekeeper, arguably the most powerful god.
