In his San Francisco Chronicle column, Brown revealed that former Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger attended the private dinner along with Michael Bloomberg, California Governor Jerry Brown (and his wife Anne), Tom Steyer, California gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom (and his wife Jennifer), and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee (and his wife Anita).

Lee has perfected or contributed to two technologies that essentially fulfill the aborted promise of Theranos. The first, a “photonic” ultra-fast polymerase chain reaction (PCR) device, uses light to rapidly amplify DNA.
PCR is critical to a wide array of applications, from forensics to agriculture—and most particularly medicine, including blood testing for infectious diseases, tumors, and genetic abnormalities. Lee’s system essentially speeds up DNA amplification from days or hours to minutes.
