Part of me wonders why Trump didn't call the bluff of all the 'masks save lives' fuckwits, and make the 'mask mandate' they were asking for.

The numbers would've either improved radically, or not really moved significantly at all(at which point he can slam the science and the masks could go away for good). In either case, it would've looked like a win for him.
