With apologies to my youngest sister, a scholar of ancient Greece, I’d like to borrow a cautionary tale of overconfidence. In Aesop’s telling of the Flight of Icarus and Daedalus, Icarus flew too high and the heat of the sun melted the wax holding the feathers on the wings attached to his arms and he fell to his death.
I’d like to compare his fate to the two senators, Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Josh Hawley (R-Missouri), and their reckless lies about the 2020 election, that they have used to further their political ambitions.
Apparently, in their stellar college days, the two of them ignored the Greek muse that’s the symbol of truth and sincerity, Aletheia. Instead, they seem to have studied Dolos and Apate the muses of trickery and deception.
The point of this comparison to ancient beliefs is to state my firm belief that until our 100 senators and 435 representatives make truth their guiding principle and help facilitate our national period of healing, we will struggle to cauterize the open wound of deceit. It should be a matter of civic responsibility to stay true to their oath of office to defend our constitution from all enemies “foreign and domestic.” The horrendous scenes of carnage and vandalism that occurred on Jan. 6, 2021, will live in infamy despite the rioters claims of being freedom fighters instead of being domestic terrorists.
In conclusion, I’d like to congratulate those citizens that acted on my request to vote and ask for one more favor! To pray for healing and to show love to your fellow Americans. It will take years to build back up the faith and trust in our institutions that have been slandered by the constant lying of Donald John Trump.
