The President’s team seeks to purge the Justice Department of Trump-appointed US attorneys

The Biden administration’s Department of Justice is set to seek the resignations of almost all of the US attorneys appointed by President Donald Trump during his tenure as President of the United States.

The purging of President Trump’s appointments is expected to affect 56 US attorneys who had been confirmed by the US Senate. A senior Justice Department official said the resignation calls could begin as early as Tuesday.

The process, the DoJ official said, is expected to take a few weeks. It is unclear when the resignations would take effect or if they would all take effect at once.

There are three exceptions to the purge of US attorneys by the Biden administration and all the exceptions have to do with high profile cases.

Special counsel John Durham, a US attorney for the District of Connecticut who was appointed by former Attorney General William Barr, will continue his Russiagate investigation into the illegal activity that targeted the Trump campaign in the run-up to and the immediate aftermath of President Trump’s election to the presidency.

While Durham will resign his Connecticut position, his special counsel status exempts him from termination where the Russiagate investigation is concerned.

Also staying on in his official role as a US attorney will be Delaware US Attorney David Weiss. He was asked to stay on during a Monday call and will remained tasked with investigating illegal activity and tax law transgressions related to the President’s son, Hunter Biden.

And lastly, Acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Michael Sherwin – a career prosecutor appointed by former Attorney General William Barr – is expected to continue his investigations into the January 6, 2021 US Capitol Building breach.

US attorneys are political appointees so mass “resignations” during presidential transition periods are not uncommon.

In 1993, President Clinton’s Attorney General, Janet Reno – best remembered for the slaughter at Waco, the persecution of Richard Jewel for the Olympic Park bombing, and seizing 6-year-old Elián González and sending him back to Communist Cuba, asked for the resignation of all 93 US attorneys in the early days of the Clinton Administration.

By contract, President Trump’s first Attorney General, Pete Sessions, requested 46 resignations of sitting US attorneys, approximately the same number of US attorneys transitioned out by the Obama administration.

Pompeo Slams WHO Findings That COVID-19 Did Not Come From Wuhan Lab Despite Demanding Investigation

The World Health Organisation on Tuesday concluded its investigation into the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, announcing that it was unlikely that the COVID-19 was released from laboratories at the Wuhan Institute for Virology.

A former US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, rejected the World Health Organisation's (WHO) conclusion that it was "extremely likely" that the first coronavirus case spread from animals to humans.

Speaking to 'America's Newsroom' on Tuesday, Pompeo continued his support for an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that COVID-19 emerged from a laboratory in Wuhan.

"The reason we left the World Health Organisation because we came to believe it was corrupt, it had been politicised, it was bending the knee to General Secretary Xi Jinping in China", Pompeo asserted.

The Trump appointee said that he's was hoping to read the report, but added he that doesn't believe investigators had access to what they needed and suggested that Chinese authorities may have influenced the survey.

"I hope they got all the data, all the science, into the lab, talk to the doctors, interview them, interview them in private in places where they could actually tell the truth about what took place, not under the supervision of a Communist Party person sitting in the back of the room making sure that they toe the Communist Party line", Pompeo remarked, adding, "I continue to know that there is significant evidence that this may well have come from that laboratory".

Host Bill Hemmer asked the former state secretary if anything would be changed if it was found that the pandemic had originated in the lab.

​This follows an investigation by WHO experts into the origins of the COVID-19 coronavirus, ultimately concluding that the disease likely entered humans through zoonotic transfer and did not escape from a lab.

"We came here with two goals," said Peter Ben Embarek, a WHO expert in food safety and zoonosis. "One was to try and get a better understanding of what happened at the beginning of the event in December 2019. In parallel, we also embarked on trying to understand … how did the virus emerge".

The investigation found no evidence that the virus was present in Wuhan prior to December 2019, when China first began reporting COVID-19 symptoms and initiated their investigation into the outbreak.

While US President Joe Biden last month reversed Trump's withdrawal from the WHO, the former said on Monday that Beijing should expect “extreme competition” from the US under his leadership.

Prior to the ascendancy of Biden to the White House, Trump's fourth secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, was among the most vocal advocates for a WHO investigation into the origins of the pandemic in Wuhan.

In a statement released in January, US government officials suggested that Pompeo had received new information regarding the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), where the former diplomat claims the virus may have originated.

Pompeo claimed that from at least 2016, WIV scientists had studied a bat coronavirus which is reported to be close to the COVID-19 virus, and claimed that the lab has collaborated on secret projects with the Chinese military.

Pompeo called for unfettered access to lab records and samples, as well as staff, researchers, eyewitnesses, and whistleblowers to certify the credibility of the WHO's final report.

New York Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Republican Activists, Including Bevelyn Beatty, For Planned Parenthood Protests

New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against Republican activists Bevelyn Beatty and Edmee Chavannes for protesting at Planned Parenthood.

The federal lawsuit seeks a preliminary injunction prohibiting the women from going near the abortion provider’s building.

“For almost 50 years, Roe v. Wade has made clear the right of women to control their own bodies,” James said in a statement. “Despite the clear protections under the law, these individuals used violent and illegal tactics to harass, threaten, and block women from entering Planned Parenthood.”

The lawsuit says that the women, who gained viral infamy for repeatedly painting over Black Lives Matter street murals in New York, have been protesting at the clinic nearly every week since 2019.

The AG claims that the women would get close to patients and staff without masks and harass them as they entered the building.

“Over the years, we have witnessed these anti-abortion extremists spew lies and use physical force to threaten our staff, bully our volunteers, and demoralize our patients,” Joy Calloway, the interim CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, said in a statement obtained by The Hill. “The vitriol of hate outside our Manhattan Health Center is a clear and present threat to reproductive rights. This lawsuit sends a loud and clear message: Planned Parenthood patients deserve to access sexual and reproductive health care free of fear and intimidation.”

Beatty was recently stabbed in DC while attempting to help someone who was allegedly being assaulted by a Black Lives Matter extremist.

In a move that can only be described as extremely overdue, the Securities and Exchange Commission (remember them? they used to regulate the farce that is US capital markets) may actually get back to doing their job. The regulator announced on Tuesday that it is going to "give more power to its enforcement staff to launch investigations," according to the Wall Street Journal.

The timing couldn't be better: the stock "market" has completely detached itself from even the faintest semblance of economic reality, fraudulent companies are running amok and investor appetite for speculation - and in the case of new Robinhood traders, blind speculation - has never been higher.

The SEC's new initiative will allow more enforcement supervisors to authorize investigations, which will allow 36 senior regulators to subpoena companies and individuals for records or testimony. The report notes that this is a stark difference this was from the SEC under the Trump administration:

The agency during the Trump administration withdrew that authority from supervisors and allowed only two officials to approve new probes, saying it would result in more consistent decisions about which tips and complaints justified investigations.

SEC acting Chair Allison Herren Lee commented: “Returning this authority to the division’s experienced senior officers, who have a proven track record of executing it prudently, helps to ensure that investigative staff can work effectively to protect investors.”

Establishment Media Express Collective Outrage over Democrats’ Impeachment Video

Several members of the media took to Twitter to express outrage over the House Democrats’ selectively edited impeachment trial video.

Impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who previously objected to results from Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, showed a dramatic video that spliced together Trump’s statements with protesters who attacked the Capitol.

The video, for example, edited out Trump’s remark to his supporters to “peacefully make their voices heard.”

AOC refuses to apologize for accusing Ted Cruz of trying to get her killed during the US Capitol riots

'I will not apologize for what I said'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) stands by her remarks that Sen. Ted Cruz "almost had [her] murdered" during the Jan. 6 incursion at the U.S. Capitol and refuses to issue an apology, according to the New York Post.

House Republicans have previously called for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to force Ocasio-Cortez to retract the remarks.

During a Monday news conference in Queens, Ocasio-Cortez said that she has no plans to apologize to Cruz over the dramatic remarks, which came after Cruz offered his verbal support in her push for an investigation into the trading app Robinhood after it decided to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds were open for trading.

In late January, Robinhood temporarily suspended trading of certain volatile stocks — including GameStop and AMC Entertainment Holdings — after online investors pushed to buy up company shares to "squeeze" Wall Street hedge fund managers.

After Robinhood blocked investors from buying GameStop shares, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, "This is unacceptable. We now need to know more about @RobinhoodApp's decision to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit. As a member of the Financial Services Cmte, I'd support a hearing if necessary."

But Ocasio-Cortez was not interested in Cruz's remarks, and blasted the Texas Republican for what she said was an instigation of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riots.

Buffalo shooting: Gunman identified as Gregory Paul Ulrich

The shooter who opened fire inside a Minnesota health clinic Tuesday was a local man “very familiar” to law enforcement, police said.

Gregory Paul Ulrich, 67, has been identified as the gunman who critically injured five people around 11 a.m. at the Allina Health Clinic in Buffalo, police said.

“There is no information at this point that leads us to believe there is any nexus with any type of domestic terrorism. We are very familiar with the suspect,” Chief Pat Budke told reporters.

Police responding to reports of gunfire took Ulrich into custody.

Officials believe that he acted alone and aren’t looking for additional suspects.

At least 36 people have developed a rare, life-threatening blood disorder, called thrombocytopenia, after receiving either of the two COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the US.

One of them, Miami obstetrician Dr Gregory Michael, died after thrombocytopenia caused his platelets to drop to virtually zero. He was just 56 and died of a brain hemorrhage just 16 days after receiving Pfizer's shot.

And doctors ordered Luz Legaspi, 72, not to leave her bed for over a week, for fear a bump, bruise, fall or other minor injury could lead to a similar hemorrhage and prove fatal for her.

Thrombocytopenia has been seen after other vaccines as well, and experts suspect that the shot does act as a trigger in some way - they just don't know why yet.

But so far, the platelet-suppressing condition appears exceedingly rare - affecting just 36 people out of 43 million doses administered in the US - and scientists theorize that only a small fraction of the population may have some predisposition that could lead vaccines to trigger the blood disorder.

Of 15 people included in a forthcoming study, only one had a recent history of low platelet counts, and there were no clear common threads that predict who might be the very few to develop thrombocytopenia after vaccination.

But with the exception of Dr Michael, all others so far have recovered after treatment.

Bill Maher Claims Christianity Is To Blame For Capitol Riot

During Friday’s episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher,” host Bill Maher blamed Christianity for the Capitol riots last month.

Maher, 65, claimed that a belief in Christianity is comparable to a belief in conspiracies like QAnon, and he said this led in part to supporters of former President Donald Trump storming the Capitol last month.

“As long as we’re going to go to the trouble of another impeachment trial, we might as well be honest about what it’s really about: The events of Jan. 6 were a faith-based initiative,” he said.

Not stopping there, Maher alleged that Trump supporters who believe in a “Christian nationalist movement” are firm in their beliefs that God “literally sent [Trump] from heaven to save them.” He cited comments made by Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who once said that God personally chose Trump for president of the United States of America.

“There’s a lot of talk now in liberal corners about how Republicans should tell their base who still believe the election was rigged that they need to grow up and move on and stop asking the rest of us to respect their mass delusion,” Maher said. “And, of course, it is a mass delusion. But the inconvenient truth here is that, if you accord religious faith the kind of exalted respect we do here in America, you’ve already lost the argument that mass delusion is bad.”
