Quincy Institute Fellow Denies China’s Genocide of Uighur Muslims

A fellow at the Quincy Institute said the charge that China is committing genocide is a "far-right" talking point, the latest pro-China comment from an isolationist think tank with a history of downplaying China's threat to the United States.

China's horrendous treatment of its Uighur Muslim population has led to bipartisan agreement that the Chinese government is committing genocide against the ethnic minority group. Almost no one in the West buys China's denials—except for Joshua Landis, a nonresident fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft who cited an article from a conspiratorial, far-left website to cast doubt on the genocide designation in a now-deleted Saturday tweet.

"Pompeo's and Blinken's accusation of China ‘genocide' relied on data abuse by far-right ideologue," Landis wrote, referring to the secretaries of state for the Trump and Biden administrations. "Between 2010 & 2018, the Uyghur population in Xinjiang grew by a 25%, faster than the growth of the Han Chinese."

Landis's position echoed that of the Chinese government, which also denies a genocide in Xinjiang. Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi doubled down on the claim Monday, saying Xinjiang is a "shining example" of China's human rights progress despite multiple press accounts of mass detention, mass sterilization, and systemic rape of Uighur Muslims.

Landis is the only Quincy fellow so far to deny outright the existence of an ongoing genocide in China, but his comments are consistent with the think tank's history of pedaling pro-Beijing viewpoints that are grossly out of step with the bipartisan consensus. Even as Democrats and Republicans have come to believe in a more muscular China policy, the isolationist think tank continues to pump out research that downplays China's threat and calls for American cooperation with the authoritarian country.

The Quincy Institute does not hesitate to appear in unconventional venues to advocate for "cooperation" with China and other American adversaries. The think tank's fellows are frequent guests on China's official mouthpieces, where they blast American foreign policy decisions.

"There are clearly many issues over which China and the United States must cooperate," Quincy Institute president Andrew Bacevich told a Chinese state media outlet.

I hear all the talk of potential candidates for the 2022 and 2024 elections.

The same principle applies to those future elections as I urged with respect to the 2020 GA Senate runoff. Until we fix the theft of the November 3, 2020 election, we can have NO assurances regarding the integrity of any future election.

We cannot ignore the past and move forward into the future “hoping” election fraud will not recur. The enemy did it once (or more) and thinks he got away with it. The enemy will do it again. Or the enemy will save the time and expense of conducting another fraudulent election and simply tell us who will lead us.

But let’s assume that we have a 2022 election and fraud evidence surfaces again. If the State Bar of GA is successful in revoking my law license for being involved in filing lawsuits challenging the 2020 election, what lawyer is going to risk his or her livelihood and reputation to legally challenge the 2022 election? The answer is obvious. None or at best, only a very few brave souls.

The GA State Bar fight is presently focused on me. But it is actually aimed at every lawyer in the country. And at every citizen who might wish in the future to hire a lawyer of his or her choice to legally challenge a deprivation of voting rights or an unlawful election.

We must not lose focus by only looking ahead and not taking all available actions to fix the November 3, 2020 election.

And we must not forget for one second that today the enemy is coming after me. Sooner as opposed to later, the enemy will be coming after you.

The time to take a stand is now. Do not let November 3, 2020 go quietly in the night.

Small plane crashes into Alabama lake

COOSA COUNTY, Alabama – Rescue crews were on the scene of a plane crash on Lake Martin near Equality in Coosa County Tuesday.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Troopers within the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division were notified of the small plane crash on Lake Martin around 3:40 p.m. local time.

There was no immediate word on what caused the plane to go down or how many people were on-board. WBMA reported the pilot was located and is “OK.”

Ex-Capitol Police Chief: Intel Indicated Antifa, Proud Boys, Other Groups Would Join on Jan. 6

Former Capitol Police Chief Sund said that a pre-Jan. 6 intelligence assessment suggested that Antifa, Proud Boys, and extremist groups would partake in the Jan. 6 event in Washington.

“The assessment indicated that members of the Proud Boys, white supremacist groups, Antifa, and other extremist groups were expected to participate in the January 6th event and that they may be inclined to become violent,” said former Chief Steven Sund in a written statement (pdf) to the Senate.

It added that an “intelligence assessment indicated that the January 6th protests/rallies were ‘expected to be similar to the previous Million MAGA March rallies in November and December 2020, which drew tens of thousands of participants,” adding that faulty intelligence was to blame for the outmanned Capitol defenders’ failure to anticipate the riots.

Accused Capitol rioter John Sullivan, a self-styled Antifa activist, was arrested and charged in connection with the breach. Sullivan previously told The Epoch Times that he’s apolitical but has told other news outlets that he is Antifa or anti-fascist. Antifa is a far-left, anarcho-communist network that has engaged in violence across the country in recent years. Sullivan has also been linked to the Black Lives Matter movement, though he’s been disavowed by the leader of Black Lives Matter Utah.

Sund and other officials attempted to blame various federal agencies—and each other—for their failure to defend the building as demonstrators overwhelmed security barriers, broke windows and doors, and sent lawmakers fleeing from the House and Senate chambers.

But Sund told senators on Tuesday that the incident wasn’t his agency’s fault.

“No single civilian law enforcement agency—and certainly not the USCP—is trained and equipped to repel, without significant military or other law enforcement assistance, an insurrection of thousands of armed, violent, and coordinated individuals focused on breaching a building at all costs,” he testified.

And he argued that the incident was “coordinated,” adding that some rioters had “climbing gear.”

“I’m able to provide you a quick overview of why I think it was a coordinated attack. One, people came specifically with equipment. You’re bringing in climbing gear to a demonstration. You’re bringing in explosives. You’re bringing in chemical spray … you’re coming prepared,” Sund told the senators.

Biden Gun Control Plan Would ‘Criminalize’ up to 105 Million People: Gun-rights Group

A gun-rights organization said that President Joe Biden’s gun control proposal would potentially make about 105 million law-abiding gun owners into criminals.

“While we can agree that there are several ‘common sense’ and long overdue changes needed to our nation’s gun laws, we firmly believe that the path forward should be focused on supporting and protecting responsible, law-abiding Americans—not criminalizing and punishing them,” the U.S. Concealed Carry Association said in a letter to Biden this week.

The group—which, according to the group’s website, has about 556,000 members—said the president’s push for gun control on the anniversary of the Parkland, Florida mass shooting was needless.

“The U.S. Concealed Carry Association exists to help responsible Americans avoid danger, save lives, and keep their families safe, and we believe that our elected leaders in Washington have an incredible obligation to pursue these same goals,” the group added.

The group noted that in 2020, a significant number of people purchased firearms in the midst of historic riots and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FBI stated last month that it processed a record 39.7 million firearm background checks in 2020, which bested the previous high of 10 million. Reports said that as many as 8.5 million purchased their first firearm in 2020, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Meanwhile, a number of gun and ammunition manufacturers reported shortages amid the surge in demand.

Biden earlier this month said that he would push Congress to enact more gun control measures, including allowing gun manufacturers to face lawsuits, banning “assault weapons,” and placing bans on high-capacity magazines. His pick for Attorney General, Merrick Garland, told lawmakers on Monday that he would support the White House’s stance on gun control.

“This Administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed that call. We will take action to end our epidemic of gun violence and make our schools and communities safer. Today, I am calling on Congress to enact commonsense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets,” Biden said earlier this month.

Pro-Second Amendment groups have noted that the term “assault weapon” has a nebulous meaning, with some saying that it is a made-up term that was invented by the anti-gun lobby in the 1980s. “Assault rifle” is a term sometimes used by the military to define a rifle that has select-fire capabilities, or the ability to switch between semi-automatic or fully automatic. For example, the much-derided AR-15 doesn’t have select-fire capability and only operates as a semi-automatic rifle.

The U.S. Concealed Carry Association further added that “record numbers of Americans have been purchasing firearms to keep themselves and their loved ones safe,” adding that “women and minorities are now leading the way as the fastest-growing groups of concealed carry permit holders in the country.”

White House officials, furthermore, have said Biden would take on the largest gun-rights group, the National Rifle Association (NRA).

“But I will say that the president is somebody, throughout his career, who has advocated for smart gun, smart gun safety measures,” press secretary Jen Psaki said earlier this month. “He is not afraid of standing up to the NRA – he has done it multiple times.”

The letter was first obtained by the Washington Examiner. The Epoch Times has reached out to the White House for comment.

Small Plane Crashes Into Car on Interstate in Livermore, California

No reports of injuries or casualties followed the plane crash. The incident happened on the interstate near the Livermore airport.

According to local media, a small plane crashed into a car in the middle of the freeway in Livermore, California, on Tuesday evening.

Interstate-580, where the incident occured, runs parallel to the Livermore Airport, with planes taking off and landing just a few hundred metres away from the road.

Livermore Police Department confirmed that the incident happened on the roadway on Isabel Ave between E. Airway Blvd & Portola Ave. The road has been closed until the investigation is complete.

According to the police, no one was injured.

A video of the aftermath of the incident was shared online, showing heavy presence of police and medical cars near the scene where the plane crashed into the car.

Japan Appoints "Minister Of Loneliness" After Disturbing Rise In 'Social Distancing Era' Suicides

Japan like many other developed nations witnessed an alarming rise in suicides or attempted suicides over this past year of pandemic shutdowns and social distancing measures. The country was already at crisis levels even before the pandemic (though generally on a downward trajectory the prior decade), with recent studies showing it to be "the leading cause of death in men among the ages of 20-44 and women among the ages of 15 to 34."

To tackle the crisis, especially in the midst of this COVID-induced period of greater social isolation, Japan's government has appointed a "Minister of Loneliness" after the UK became the first country to establish such a position in 2018.

The most recent numbers cited in Japanese media reports say that 879 women killed themselves in the country during the month of October, a figure that marks a whopping 70% increase compared to the same month from 2019. Officials have noted that the pandemic and oftentimes mandated social distancing measures have appeared to have a harsher impact on women.

According to Japan Times, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga earlier in the month appointed as the new Minister of Loneliness a 70-year old veteran politician named Tetsushi Sakamoto. It is a cabinet level position which aims to alleviate social isolation among citizens.

He'll head up an 'emergency taskforce' to battle the disturbing spike in suicides nationally as his first order of business. "With isolation tied to an array of social woes such as suicide, poverty and hikikomori (social recluses), the Cabinet Office also established a task force Friday that seeks to address the problem of loneliness across various ministries, including by investigating its impact," Japan Times writes.

"According to preliminary figures released by the National Police Agency, 20,919 people took their own lives in 2020, up 750 from the previous year and marking the first year-on-year increase in 11 years. The surge is largely attributed to a noticeable rise in suicides among women and young people," the report pointed out.

For years we have watched as radical right-wing conspiracy theorist Rick Wiles has used his "TruNews" program to endlessly rail against Democrats for allegedly attempting to install a communist, Marxist, or socialist regime in the United States.

It was therefore a little surprising to hear Wiles declare on his television program Monday night that he is thinking about running for president in 2024 on a platform centered on seizing the wealth of the billionaires in this country and redistributing it to the poor.

Wiles said that someone must run on a populist platform of breaking up large technology companies in the United States, making it illegal to be a billionaire, confiscating their assets, and redistributing their wealth, and he might just be the one to do it.

As I noted on Sunday, we're in the midst of a massive political realignment but no one sees it because the press doesn't want to acknowledge what's happening.

"When you use your money and power to change my life, to take away my rights, to try to force things on me that I object to, that I find morally repulsive, when you try to restrict my free speech, when you try to promote population control, you want to pump vaccines into my body, when you want to change society, you know what? You're my enemy," Wiles declared. "The only way you're able to do it is because you're a billionaire. So then we need to take away your billions."

"There needs to be a populist movement in this country," he continued. "Let's break up the tech companies. Let's take the billions. I want to take Bill Gates' billions and give it to the poor. I want to give it to the poor. I want to strip them, completely strip them, and give it to the poor. I want Jack Dorsey's money. I want [Mark] Zuckerberg's money. I want to give it to the poor."

As Huey Long used to say about his similar "Share the Wealth" program, his redistributionist plan is "the only stop-gap to Communism!"

I've been embracing a similar agenda as well, though I favor a universal basic income so the middle class and the GOP base would actually get back some of the trillions they collectively pay into the system instead of it going disproportionately to the very rich and the very poor.

Bill Maher and other leftists love to criticize middle Americans for not "voting for their own interests" – it's time to take them up on the offer.

We want candidates to run on Trump's 2016 agenda combined with a Yang-style automation tax for Big Tech and Big Banks to provide all Americans with a UBI.

Childcare centres across Cairns, Tablelands hit by viral hand, foot and mouth disease

Health authorities have issued an urgent health alert after 15 childcare centres in Queensland were hit by a viral infection.

An outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease is spreading across north Queensland, with at least 15 childcare centres on high alert.

Health authorities have warned parents to be on alert for the viral infection, which has seen 60 people present at Cairns hospital‘s emergency department since the start of the year.

Of the 60 hospital presentations, nine people had to be admitted.

Officials also warned the 15 childcare centres affected by the outbreak were located throughout the Cairns and Tablelands regions since early January.

The disease is typically mild and occurs mainly in young children, but it could also affect older children and adults.

Symptoms of the disease include rash or blisters on the hands and feet, as well as in or around the mouth.

It is most commonly caused by the Coxsackie virus and mainly spreads through contact with fluid from inside the blisters, or via droplets from sneezing and coughing.

4 Northeast Florida men among 12 arrested in Marion County child sex sting

Four Northeast Florida men were among 12 arrested in a child sex sting out of Marion County, authorities said.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the 12 men talked online with who they thought were children but were actually undercover detectives. Some of them are accused of sending sexually explicit photos to the detectives.

Investigators said eight men traveled to a location in Marion County to have sex with the child they thought they had been messaging online, but when they arrived, they were actually met by law enforcement officers and arrested.

In addition, investigators said, four men transmitted harmful material to who they believed were minors.

During a news conference Monday, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods issued a stern warning to parents and also people who prey on children.

“To the would-be, vile individuals that are doing this and are seeking children in Marion County, be assured that I will find you, I will put handcuffs on you and I will put you in my jail. My deputies will spend hours hunting you down. My job is bringing people to justice, but if it was my choice, I’d bury you under the jail if I could,” Woods said. “My message to parents, I want to make something clear: You need to be fully aware of where your children are talking online. Be aware of their social media. All of these individuals, for some of them, this might be their first offense, but I promise you it’s not their first time.”

Dunte Campbell, 31, of Jacksonville, was arrested in Marion County on charges of traveling to meet after using a computer to lure a child, using a computer to seduce/solicit/lure a child, using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Allen Vasquez, 18, of Jacksonville, was arrested on a warrant charging him with transmitting harmful material to a minor.

Lonny Blankenship, 51, of Lake City, was arrested in Marion County on charges of traveling to meet after using a computer to lure a child, using a computer to seduce/solicit/lure a child and using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

Robin Strickland, 21, of Gainesville, was arrested on a warrant charging him with using a computer to solicit a child, using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony and transmitting harmful material to a minor.
