==Queensland primary school teacher dies in the middle of police investigation

A Queensland teacher at the centre of a police investigation into allegationshe filmed children in change rooms has taken his own life.

A Queensland primary school teacher has taken his own life, just after police launched an investigation into allegations he’d been filming children in change rooms.

Michael Patrick Robertson, a year six teacher at St Columba’s in Wilston in Brisbane’s north, died yesterday after he was approached by police, The Courier-Mail reported.

The principal of the Catholic primary school had alerted parents via email on Tuesday that police were investigating the popular teacher.

Parents were advised by email late on Tuesday night that Queensland Police were looking into allegations Mr Robertson had filmed, or attempted to film children at a school sports carnival.

“I write to inform you that our school recently became aware of an alleged incident involving one of our staff members,” the principal wrote in an email, obtained by The Courier-Mail.

“This matter is now the subject of an ongoing police investigation and in support of this, our school is continuing to assist police in every way we can.

“As this matter is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, I know you will understand that I am not able to provide additional details just at this time.”

Responding to backlash and concern from parents, the principal sent a second email that same night.

“I write to reassure you that the school is focused on the safety and wellbeing of your children,” he wrote.

“They are our priority. If you have any specific concerns or notice anything that is concerning to you, please contact me again and we will develop a plan to look after your child.

“We would certainly make contact with you if we held any concerns about your child.”

Queensland Police did not comment on the investigation.

It’s not clear if charges had already been laid.

Illegal Alien Charged With Raping 11-Year-Old Girl In North Carolina

RED SPRINGS, NC – On Friday, police arrested Marcelo Barahona-Ruiz, 37, after responding to a domestic disturbance in progress in the 500 block of North Main Street. The dispute began when the mother of an 11-year-old girl confronted the suspect over his having sexual contact with her daughter, to which he admitted, according to detectives.

The Robesonian reported:

Red Springs Chief of Police Brent Adkins called the incident “tragic and horrifying” for the victim and her family.

“No person, especially a child should ever have to go through this,” Adkins said in a statement. “I am thankful that she is recovering at her home currently. I know that she has a long road ahead of her with emotional and physical healing and we will be working closely with the victim and her family to make sure that they get the help they need such as counseling, therapy, etc.”

Barahona-Ruiz was charged with first-degree statutory rape, first-degree statutory sexual offense and indecent liberties with a child. He is currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center on $500,000 secured bond.

More charges will likely be filed in this case, according to police.

Chicago: Mercy Hospital files for bankruptcy

Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, whose efforts to close were denied by the state, has filed for bankruptcy and said it is moving forward with its goal of shuttering the facility by May 31.

The Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, made Wednesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, blindsided and angered community leaders who say a closure would hurt health care access and local businesses that rely on it as a community anchor and major employer. Some have been working to find a buyer for the hospital.

“By pulling this lever it again shows us that they do not want to provide health care to the South Side of Chicago,” said Rep. Lamont Robinson, D-Chicago, whose district includes Mercy.

In December, the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board voted down an application from Trinity Health, Mercy’s owner, to close the hospital in Bronzeville, whose roots in the community go back more than 150 years.

And less than three weeks ago, the state board denied Trinity’s application to open an outpatient care center on the city’s South Side, two miles away from the hospital.

Gretchen Whitmer Administration Refuses to Answer Questions About Nursing Home Policy

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) administration refused to answer questions from legislators Thursday about her coronavirus nursing home policy.

During a House Oversight Committee meeting, chairman Rep. Steve Johnson (R) acknowledged a representative from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) declined to participate:

“Most of your guys got a letter last night from the director (MDHHS’s Elizabeth Hertel) in response” to the announced hearing, he said.

“We asked them to testify, we asked them last week. We really wanted them to testify, because there are questions that need to be answered. They refused to testify. They sent us this letter instead,” Johnson told the committee.

The committee chairman indicated the letter claimed MDHHS has “the greatest data out there,” but did not share any of it.

“I’m just a simple guy, but in my mind if you have the best data out there, wouldn’t you share it with people?” he said.

Johnson said the data reported by the Whitmer administration indicated Michigan has the 14th highest coronavirus-related death rate in the country per 100 residents.

The U.S. Department of Justice attempted to get data from Whitmer’s administration in August, and the governor issued a joint statement with now-embattled New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D). The pair argued there were partisan motivations for probing the large coronavirus-related percentage of nursing home deaths.

“This is nothing more than a transparent politicization of the Department of Justice in the middle of the Republican National Convention,” Whitmer and Cuomo, who is embroiled in his own nursing home death scandal, said, according to the Daily Gazette.

“It’s no coincidence the moment the Trump administration is caught weakening the CDC’s COVID-19 testing guidelines to artificially lower the number of positive cases, they launched this nakedly partisan deflection,” the duo said.

“At least 14 states — including Kentucky, Utah and Arizona — have issued similar nursing home guidance, all based on federal guidelines, yet the four states listed in the DOJ’s request have a Democratic governor,” Whitmer and Cuomo claimed.

World Economic Forum and the Rockefeller Foundation Are Main Drivers for Digital Vaccines Passports

Klaus Schwab is becoming one of the most dangerous men perhaps in modern history. His World Economic Forum and the Rockefeller Foundation are the main drivers behind the adoption of digital health passes. Two years before the corona pandemic, the EU Commission had drawn up a “roadmap for vaccination”. They are trying to create an authoritarian world where they have lurking behind the curtain their agenda to reduce the population. I am warning that these people are ultimately looking to keep such restrictions upon the world travel also to reduce CO2 and then merge that with ultimately permits to even have children.

We simply have to make sure that ANY politician who is in league with Schwab is thrown out of office by 2022. The entire future of Western Society depends on the rejection of Schwab and his insane Agenda 2030. Moreover, ANY company that is in partnership with the World Economic Forum should be AVOIDED at all costs. CEOs who have been linked with Schwab should also be purged from office in any public corporation. They have abandoned their fiduciary responsibility to shareholders supporting Schwabs’ communist agenda he calls stakeholder economics – raise money for investment but then use it for political agendas.

If we do not see these actions by 2022, we are in for a very nasty battle against this rising Tyranny. Both the World Economic Forum and the Rockefeller Foundation should be black-listed by any investment whatsoever. In this world where they are out to cancel anyone who speaks the truth about their agenda, it is time we cancel them from society in return.

Lawyers, accountants and other professionals play key role in cross-border financial crime, OECD warns in new report

The forum of wealthy nations urges countries to target and disrupt ‘enablers’ of tax evasion, money laundering and other illicit finance.

A powerful international organization whose members represent the world’s largest economies has issued a strong warning about the “threats and risks” posed by lawyers, accountants and other facilitators who help their clients commit and conceal financial crimes.

These “professional enablers,” often associated with the secretive offshore finance industry, “undermine not only the rule of law, but their own profession,” says the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in a new report. While it stops short of concrete prescriptions, the report includes broad recommendations aimed at “targeting professional enablers and disrupting their activities.”

The “Ending the Shell Game” report, which cites reporting by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in its opening paragraph, marks the OECD’s first detailed foray into the realm of criminal professional enablers, a wide term that encompasses a potpourri of whizzes with special skills, including tax advisers, wealth managers, lawyers, accountants, company formation agents and trust companies. Many of the OECD’s 37 member countries, including the United States, the Netherlands and Switzerland are home to hoards of professional enablers and have poor track records in holding the various sectors accountable.

Recommendations for countries include more education about the role of enablers in financial crime and tougher laws to hold them criminally liable. Where lawyers can too easily hide behind client-attorney privilege and refuse to share possible evidence of crime with law enforcement, for example, the OECD suggests that countries consider new legislation.

All countries, the OECD suggests, should create national strategies “to tackle professional enablers who actively participate in tax crimes and other financial crimes.”

The report takes pains to distinguish those complicit in moving and hiding illicit money from professionals who follow the law.

“The majority of professionals are law-abiding and play an important role in assisting businesses and individuals to understand and comply with the law and helping the financial system run smoothly,” the report says. “Such law-abiding professionals are to be differentiated from a small set of professionals who use their skills and knowledge of the law to actively promote, market and facilitate the commission of crimes by their clients.

Professional enablers in the shadows

Poor and wealthy countries alike are under growing pressure to recoup billions of dollars in revenue lost to tax evasion and crack down on financial crime. Tax advisers, lawyers and accountants are valuable partners for rogue actors who need sophisticated structures and clever advice to outsmart law enforcement.

Dr. Katie Benson, a lecturer at Lancaster University Law School who has written extensively on the topic, said that interest in enablers has spiked over recent years. “Increasingly, there is more of a focus on sanctioning people for doing this,” Benson said. “There is a concern that it doesn’t happen enough.”

The OECD’s report highlights examples from around the world of professionals hiding clients’ money, often through shell companies whose owners are hard to trace. In one U.S. case cited in the report, tax advisors prepared fake business losses on tax returns to reduce taxes paid. In another from Sweden and the United Kingdom, the OECD described an incident where an unnamed offshore specialist encouraged customers to communicate through encrypted emails and changed banks to avoid detection by police.

Following the money in the Philippines is risky business, Forbidden Stories shows

Maria Ressa, founder of the news outlet Rappler, could face six years in prison after being convicted of cyber libel for her reporting on President Rodrigo Duterte. A new video series chronicles the organization’s work.

Philippine news organization Rappler has made a name for itself by reporting on financial crime and corruption — and has become a target of the powerful people it investigates. Rappler’s founder and CEO Maria Ressa was convicted of cyber libel in June 2020 for a story about Filipino businessman Wilfredo Keng’s connections to President Rodrigo Duterte and faces up to six years in prison if her conviction is upheld. She was recently nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for her commitment to a free and independent press.

This week, the collaborative journalism network Forbidden Stories is presenting a series of videos to amplify Rappler’s work in covering the Duterte regime.

Duterte has been a frequent target of Rappler since he took office in 2016, with stories published about his aggressive war on drugs, his entourage and business connections. He has responded forcefully, barring a Rappler reporter from entering the presidential palace, using an army of social media bots to wage a disinformation campaign and even threatening journalists with assassination, according to the video series.

“Despite the Duterte regime throwing the whole autocratic playbook at them … the journalists at Rappler have never cowed or backed down due to the pressure,” said Phineas Rueckert, an investigative journalist with Forbidden Stories. “They have, in fact, done the opposite: They have continued to go out in the field to report stories that challenge those in power.”

Forbidden Stories is a nonprofit founded to carry on the work of journalists who have been imprisoned or killed. Its first project pursued the work of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a reporter who had been investigating corruption and organized crime in Malta before she was assassinated in 2017. Since then, they have continued investigations into cartel involvement in Mexican politics, corruption in Ghanaian football, and environmental scandals around the world.

“Even if you kill the messenger,” Rueckert said, “you can’t kill the message.”

“The Forbidden Stories of Rappler” was produced with support from the Pulitzer Center. Watch the third installment, “The Money,” which looks at Rappler’s reporting on financial crime and corruption, below:

State Patrol worker arrested in child sex sting operation

A Washington State Patrol employee has been arrested in a sting operation after showing up at a hotel room where he expected to find two children but was instead met by a SWAT team, authorities said.

The Seattle Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit arrested the employee, identified by the King County Prosecutor’s office as 27-year-old Trevor J. Smith, on allegations of attempted child rape.

The Seattle Times reported that prosecutors said, based on information provided by State Patrol, that the man worked as a commercial vehicle enforcement officer assigned to the school bus inspection program. No children were present when he conducted safety inspections on the buses.

Jail records show he was booked into the King County jail on Tuesday night. He has not been charged. Prosecutors said bail was set at $150,000. It wasn’t immediately clear if Smith had an attorney.

A probable cause statement said the employee responded to an ad placed by a female undercover officer on Feb. 18.

The man, believing he was trading graphic messages with the mother of two girls, ages 6 and 11, met the undercover officer for dinner in Kirkland before allegedly buying condoms and meeting her at a hotel, the statement said.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. Darren Wright said the employee was removed from his duties and will face an administrative investigation.

“As parents and Washingtonians ourselves, we are shocked and deeply disappointed by these serious and significant allegations,” Wright said. “To ensure a fair and transparent process, WSP cannot and will not be involved in the investigation, and will defer any inquiries about the investigation to the Seattle Police Department.”

‘Mein Kampf’ and Other ‘Hate Speech’ Products You Can Still Buy on Amazon

Amazon, the popular online retailer, is under fire after conservative author Ryan T. Anderson announced on Sunday that his 2018 bestseller, When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment, had been scrubbed from the Amazon website.

The decision to ban the book from its platform came several months after Amazon quietly altered its content guidelines to prohibit the sale of "content that we determine is hate speech … or other material we deem inappropriate or offensive," which includes content that "promotes the abuse or sexual exploitation of children, contains pornography, glorifies rape or pedophilia, [or] advocates terrorism."

As recently as August 2020, Amazon's content guidelines for books were significantly vaguer, asserting the company's right to prohibit the sale of "certain content, such as pornography or other inappropriate content." Amazon has yet to offer a sufficient explanation of the updated guidelines.

In the meantime, Amazon continues to permit the sale of numerous books that most casual observers might reasonably classify as "hate speech" or are otherwise incompatible with its updated content guidelines. The company also continues to sell other products that would appear to run afoul of contemporary standards of wokeness, as outlined in its prohibition on selling items (excluding books) that "promote, incite, or glorify hatred."

  1. Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler

"With satanic joy in his face, the black-haired Jewish youth lurks in wait for the unsuspecting girl whom he defiles with his blood, thus stealing her from her people," the late author writes. "It was and it is Jews who bring the Negroes into the Rhineland, always with the same secret thought and clear aim of ruining the hated white race by the necessarily resulting bastardization."

  1. Hitler's War by David Irving (1991 Edition)

The notorious Holocaust denier removed the word "Holocaust," which he found "offensive and unhelpful," from the 1991 edition because "if something didn't happen, then you don't even dignify it with a footnote."

TikTok Pays $92 Million to Settle Dozens of Lawsuits on Personal Data Theft

TikTok’s umbrella company, ByteDance, faced a class action lawsuit filed in the Illinois District Court on charges of violating security standards by storing personal data. Plaintiffs alleged that the popular video-sharing app sends the biometric data of users to third-parties.

Chinese company ByteDance, owner of the social media platform TikTok, agreed on Thursday to pay $92 million as part of a legal settlement, after a class action suit was filed in Illinois.

"While we disagree with the assertions, rather than go through lengthy litigation, we’d like to focus our efforts on building a safe and joyful experience for the TikTok community," the official TikTok statement reads, cited by Reuters.

The company will pay 92 million dollars, distributed among 20 plaintiffs. The terms of the agreement are expected to be approved by the court.

The class action lawsuit was filed against ByteDance in December 2020 by TikTok users claiming that filters and other effect options that use face scanning help the app to collect biometric data, along with personal info, to profit from targeted advertising. According to the complaint, the app saves video copies even if they have never been published, without notifying users.

Similar complaints were brought before the European Commission by European consumer group BEUC, and 17 consumer groups from European countries. According to BEUC’s claim, TikTok failed to provide proper privacy and data protection, as well as to keep safe “children and teenagers from hidden advertising and potentially harmful content on its platform."

In August 2020, the then-US president, Donald Trump, signed an executive order directing ByteDance to sell its social media assets in the US, following allegations that TikTok steals the personal data of its users and provides it to the Chinese government.

Two American companies, Oracle and Walmart, were expected to purchase TikTok’s assets and rights in the US, but the deal fell through. This month, the US government sent a motion to the Federal Court of Appeals to suspend prosecution on TikTok activity.

EU lawmaker likens AstraZeneca to ‘unreliable second-hand car salesman’ as low European jab confidence hampers vaccine uptake

Doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine are going unused across the EU amid low confidence in the jab after the company was repeatedly criticized by Brussels for not sharing sufficient data and supply problems.

Speaking on Thursday, EU lawmaker Esther de Lange, a vice president of the European People’s party, reiterated the challenge of getting “reliable data” from AstraZeneca.

AstraZeneca is behaving like an unreliable second-hand car salesman. Getting reliable data from this company is still a challenge.

Such criticism of the jab by public figures in Europe has been commonplace in recent months. French President Emmanuel Macron suggested the vaccine was "quasi-ineffective," and it wasn’t given approval for the over 65s, the most-at-risk demographic, in France and Germany despite a WHO (World Health Organization) recommendation.

Media reports have not aided vaccine confidence. In late January, German economic newspaper Handelsblatt cited an anonymous government source who claimed the British vaccine was less than 10 percent effective in over 65s.

Speaking to RT, Emanuele Capobianco, director of health and care at the Red Cross and Red Crescent, said that PR and trust in the vaccines were big issues, adding that waiting for a better vaccine to come along was a bad idea. Capobianco urged people who have the opportunity to get a vaccine to take it, noting that all approved jabs have been through stringent trial procedures.

One of that points in Europe is misinformation and mistrust. Everybody should go with that vaccine as long as it’s safe and effective. There are no reasons not to use it – people are creating problems for themselves and for the rest of the world.

'If you can’t see the election was stolen you’re a moron': Capitol rioter turned in by his ex, after he texted her DURING THE RIOT

Aggrieved by Donald Trump’s election loss and angered by the double standards of his critics, one Capitol rioter suffered the final indignity of being turned in to the FBI by his ex-girlfriend after an argument.

According to court documents filed last week and reported on Thursday, Richard Michetti of Pennsylvania took part in the pro-Trump rally on Capitol Hill last month. Seen holding a cellphone in surveillance footage, Michetti was identified by his ex-girlfriend, whom he was texting in the middle of the riot.

“It’s going down here we stormed the building they held us back with spray and teargas and paintballs,” he told his former lover, as crowds of Trump supporters first clashed with police officers outside the Capitol. Later, after the crowd forced its way inside, Michetti’s situation updates gave way to frustration.

“If you can’t see the election was stolen you’re a moron,” he complained. “We are patriots we are not revolutionaries…When the left banged on the doors of congress when they [confirmed Supreme Court Justice] Brett Kavanaugh no one got touched not one of them [but] we were outside and they were shooting tear gas and pepper spray.”

Unlike the events of January 6, which have been dubbed an “insurrection” by the mainstream media, the storming of Congress by feminist and left-wing protesters during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing in 2018 went largely uncriticized, and the participants were hit with only minor charges.

“All’s we wanted was an investigation, that’s it,” he continued. “And they couldn’t investigate the biggest presidential race in history…this is tyranny.”

In Final Days, Trump Gave Up on Forcing Release of Russiagate Files, Nunes Prober Says

After four years of railing against “deep state” actors who, he said, tried to undermine his presidency, Donald Trump relented to U.S. intelligence leaders in his final days in office, allowing them to block the release of critical material in the Russia investigation, according to a former senior congressional investigator who later joined the Trump administration.

CIA Director Gina Haspel was instrumental in blocking one of the most critical documents, says Kash Patel (top photo). It is a House report detailing "significant intelligence tradecraft failings" in the CIA’s assessment that Russia ordered interference in the 2016 campaign to elect Trump.

AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta

Kash Patel, whose work on the House Intelligence Committee helped unearth U.S. intelligence malpractice during the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane probe, said he does not know why Trump did not force the release of documents that would expose further wrongdoing. But he said senior intelligence officials "continuously impeded" their release – usually by slow-walking their reviews of the material. Patel said Trump's CIA Director, Gina Haspel, was instrumental in blocking one of the most critical documents.

Patel, who has seen the Russia probe's underlying intelligence and co-wrote critical reports that have yet to be declassified, said new disclosures would expose additional misconduct and evidentiary holes in the CIA and FBI's work.

"I think there were people within the IC [Intelligence Community], at the heads of certain intelligence agencies, who did not want their tradecraft called out, even though it was during a former administration, because it doesn't look good on the agency itself," Patel told RealClearInvestigations in his first in-depth interview since leaving government at the end of Trump's term last month, having served in several intelligence and defense roles (full interview here).

Trump did not respond to requests seeking comment sent to intermediaries.

Although a Department of Justice inspector general's report in December 2019 exposed significant intelligence failings and malpractice, Patel said more damning information is still being kept under wraps. And despite an ongoing investigation by Special Counsel John Durham into the conduct of the officials who carried out the Trump-Russia inquiry, it is unclear if key documents will ever see the light of day.

Patel did not suggest that a game-changing smoking gun is being kept from the public. Core intelligence failures have been exposed – especially regarding the FBI’s reliance on Christopher Steele’s now debunked dossier to secure FISA warrants used to surveil Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. But he said the withheld material would reveal more misconduct as well as major problems with the CIA’s assessment that Russia, on Vladimir Putin's orders, ordered a sweeping and systematic interference 2016 campaign to elect Trump. Patel was cautious about going into detail on any sensitive information that has not yet been declassified.

Netizens Spotlight Psaki's Old 'Sovereign Country' Tweet After US Airstrikes in Syria

Earlier in the day, the Pentagon confirmed that the United States had carried out airstrikes targeting "Iranian-backed" militia assets on Syrian territory, on the order of President Joe Biden, asserting that the purpose of the strikes was to "de-escalate" the situation in Eastern Syria and Iraq.

After the Pentagon's confirmation of US airstrikes in Syria targeting what was claimed to be "Iranian-backed militia", some netizens appeared to feel nostalgic, looking back at what the White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, used to think about airstrikes on the territory of "sovereign countries".

In a tweet from April 2017, in which the Psaki wondered about the "legal authority for strikes" in Syria, she noted that the country is "sovereign". The old tweet has obtained a new life and gone viral.

Netizens pointed out that the current White House press secretary had questioned airstrikes in Syria ordered by the then-US-president, Donald Trump. At the time, the airstrike were said to have been carried out in response to a chemical weapons attack in Khan Shaykhun, which, the White House claimed, was conducted by the Syrian government.

Back at the time when Psaki was apparently more questioning of US airstrikes in sovereign countries, she denounced the former president for acting "without consulting Congress" and "without clear legal authority".

"Taking targeted military action this evening is a step that probably felt powerful to Trump. It shows action. It shows force. It shows military strength", Psaki wrote in an op-ed for CNN in 2017. "The problem remains: What is next?"

The Biden airstrike, according to a Thursday statement by the Pentagon, targeted "Iranian-backed militia" and aimed "to de-escalate the overall situation in both eastern Syria and Iraq". The US DoD touted the move as a "proportionate military response" to rocket attacks in Iraq, that was conducted "together with diplomatic measures, including consultation with Coalition partners".

The Pentagon statement did not mention consultations with the US Congress on carrying out airstrikes. Claims subsequently emerged in social media suggesting that US Vice President Kamala Harris - who was also "deeply concerned about the legal rationale" of US strikes in Syria in 2018 - was not informed about the Thursday attack.

Police: Notorious gang leader escapes in deadly Haiti prison break

One of Haiti’s most notorious and dangerous gang leaders escaped in a prison break Thursday that left several people dead at a suburban detention center on the outskirts of the nation’s capital, police said.

“Arnel Joseph escaped,” Haiti National Police Spokesman Gary Desrosiers told the Miami Herald. “Forty prisoners have been recaptured.”
