NY Governor Cuomo Signs Bill Legalizing Recreational Marijuana - 3 oz. Outside, 5 Lbs. At Home

NY Post 3/31/2021

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday signed a bill legalizing recreational marijuana in New York.

The move comes after the state Legislature green-lit the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act after hours of debate late Tuesday.

“This is a historic day in New York — one that rights the wrongs of the past by putting an end to harsh prison sentences, embraces an industry that will grow the Empire State’s economy, and prioritizes marginalized communities so those that have suffered the most will be the first to reap the benefits,” Cuomo said in a statement.

Certain parts of the new law go into effect immediately.

Anyone with a previous marijuana conviction that would now be legal under the law will have the rap expunged or be resentenced.

New Yorkers will now be legally allowed to possess up to 3 ounces of Cannabis outside the home and up to 5 pounds at home - and can smoke pot in public where smoking tobacco is permitted.

However, smoking weed is not permitted inside schools, workplaces or cars.

In Bid For Diversity, Military Canine Units To Give Equal Opportunity to Chichuahuas

The Babylon Bee - April 1, 2021

LACKLAND AFB, TX—Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has directed all branches of the military to step up diversity efforts when it comes to working dogs in canine units. For the first time, the military which has always favored German Shepherds in the past will admit other breeds such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians.

"We've always had this narrow-minded view that the German Shepherd is the best dog for chasing down dangerous terrorists and sniffing out improvised explosive devices," said Austin. "But why not Chihuahuas? Why not poodles? Bringing in more dog breeds will increase our diversity– which is the greatest strength any military can have."

So far, there have been no Chihuahuas capable of taking down a 250-pound man by the arm, so the military has elected to eliminate that test altogether.
