There was a "Mr. Eko" character, in the TV show Lost.

Some interesting overlaps: "Psalm 23" was an episode name, features a few times in the above write-up; also "23 now comes the pain" was one of Q's passwords (with some punctuation for letters, in places).

The actor was from Nigeria and insisted on the name being changed, from Emeka to Omecca and finally, Eko then with a "Mr." added in front.

Weird that the write-up says the name change "fit the actor's background of Nigeria" -- when does e.g. Reagan's or Schwarzenegger's background affect the naming of a character of a movie they're in? Seems "PC" or "SJW" towards the end of that sentence:

Anyway, character also has a drug smuggling background. Also lying background; his brother died and he assumed his appearance, of a priest.

He chose to "keep pressing the button" to prevent the implosion, which ultimately happened. In the videogame "Control" there's a scene where a guy is staring at a fridge, and if he looks away it causes pain. I think the mechanism behind both of these is similar. Might also be like Sisyphus, pushing the rock up the never-ending hill.
