Chicago prosecutor put on leave after telling judge 13-year-old Adam Toledo was armed when police shot him

'It was not done lightly'

A Chicago prosecutor was suspended on Friday after he allegedly "failed to fully present the facts" regarding the death of 13-year-old Adam Toledo.

In the early morning hours on March 29, Chicago police officers responded to the Little Village neighborhood after reports of shots fired. Officers encountered Toledo and then-21-year-old Ruben Roman, both of whom allegedly attempted to flee, CBS News reported.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, a police watchdog, released bodycam footage last week showing what led up to Toledo's death.

The footage shows police tackled Roman, while another officer pursued Toledo. The teenager then stopped, turned toward the officer, who yelled, "Show me your f***ing hands," and then "Drop it!" before firing at Toledo.

According to WGN-TV, Toledo "appears to have dropped a gun and raised his hands just before a Chicago police officer fatally shot him."

The Chicago Sun-Times similarly reported that one angle of bodycam footage doesn't show Toledo "throwing away the gun, and the boy doesn't appear to be holding a weapon in his raised hands…but another video shows him apparently throwing something through a gap in the fence to the other side — and a video shows an officer discovering a handgun there."

What happened with the prosecutor?

Assistant State's Attorney James Murphy was placed on paid administrative leave Friday after telling Judge Susana Ortiz that Toledo was holding a gun when police shot him, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"In court last week, an attorney in our office failed to fully present the facts surrounding the death of a 13-year-old boy," a spokeswoman for State's Attorney Kim Foxx said. "We have put that individual on leave and are conducting an internal investigation into the matter."

Murphy's comments were made during a bond hearing for Roman.

"The officer tells [Adam] to drop it as [Adam] turns towards the officer. [Adam] has a gun in his right hand," Murphy told Judge Ortiz. "The officer fires one shot at [Adam], striking him in the chest. The gun that [Adam] was holding landed against the fence a few feet away."

On Friday, [Foxx spokeswoman Sarah] Sinovic told the Sun-Times that not all of the footage released the day before was available to Murphy when he read the statement during Ruben's bond hearing, but declined to say what footage was available to the office at that time and who in the state's attorney's office had seen it.

"It's still under investigation what videos were available to [Murphy]," Sinovic said. "We're still trying to figure out what he had access to when he made the statements in court."

Foxx reportedly said in a letter, "For many of you it may have been jarring to see our statement regarding this matter. It is indeed a rarity to see the Office make such a public statement related to the actions of an [assistant state's attorney]. It was not done lightly."

Former Temple Business School Dean Charged Federally For Manipulating School Ranking Data

The former dean of Temple's Fox School of Business is being charged with federal crimes after being ousted due to an investigation that found the school "manipulated data" to become the number one ranked MBA program in the country.

Former dean Moshe Porat was indicted on one count each of conspiracy and wire fraud, according to NBC Philadelphia. His lawyer "vigorously" denied the charges.

Isaac Gottlieb, a statistics professor, and Marjorie O'Neill, who submitted data to magazines that rank college programs, were also named in the indictment, according to the report.

Temple's online MBA had been ranked top in the nation by U.S. News and World Report since 2015. The university stayed at the top of the list for 3 years after that and used its ranking to attract students and win donations.

Porat allegedly hand picked a small group of employees to focus on the rankings, including stat professor Gottleib, who was also to reverse engineer the magazine's ranking criteria. Porat appointed O'Neill as the sole liaison between the university and the magazine.

The indictment "claims Fox manipulated data in its part-time MBA program, conflating its data with other programs to drive better rankings," NBC reported.

Unaccompanied children, fake asylum seekers, fentanyl bust, ‘War on Terror’ local veterans react

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) stole the show this week with numerous incidents occurring along the infamous wall separating the United States and Mexico.

Earlier this month, agents rescued two young, Ecuadorian sisters after alleged human smugglers dropped them over a 14-foot-tall border fence in the New Mexico desert.

After being held in custody for 13 days, the sisters are closer to reuniting with their mother and father. Authorities confirmed that the girls are in good health, and have been in touch with their parents in New York.

USBP San Diego Sector caught a smuggler on video dropping a two-year-old from an 18-foot-high border wall, not even a month later.

Remote video surveillance observed the small child hanging from atop the wall and dropped to a person below. Agents were able to get to the scene quickly and arrested the group.

Further investigation revealed a smuggler had dropped the child into the arms of his father. Authorities also revealed that the father and son are from Ghana.

Days later, additional video surveillance captured a six-year-old boy illegally crossing the border near the Morelos Dam.

USBP Yuma Sector found the Guatemalan boy walking along the dam all by himself. The boy will be processed as an unaccompanied child under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

Large groups and unaccompanied children continue to cross the border every day illegally. Recently, agents also found two "fake families" seeking asylum in unrelated events.

In the first incident, an eight-year-old girl entered the U.S. with a 36-year-old man, who claimed to be her father. However, agents later determined she was an unaccompanied child after their stories didn't match. USBP says the man later admitted being a friend of the child's mother, who is in Brazil.

In the second, agents found a 14-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman who claimed to be her mother. Authorities later discovered they were aunt and niece.

The two Romanian nationals entered the country together, but were separated under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act after the fraud was discovered.

Police halt drug possession arrests as they await major rewrite of Washington’s drug laws after Supreme Court ruling

OLYMPIA – The state Supreme Court’s decision in February declaring Washington’s felony drug possession statute unconstitutional left the legal system and lawmakers scrambling to deal with its implications.

The court found Washington’s law unconstitutional because it made possession a felony, even for people who did not know they had drugs on them.

Shannon Blake, the woman who brought the case, claimed at trial in Spokane County that a pair of pants she was wearing upon her arrest had been given to her, without her knowing a baggy of methamphetamine was in the coin pocket.

The decision effectively decriminalized possession of a small amount of drugs in Washington. While lawmakers have been working on a way to address that decision, Spokane County and other jurisdictions have been left to navigate uncertainty shaped by decades of conversations around imprisonment and treatment.

In Spokane County, police and deputies have stopped arresting people on drug possession charges while they await the Legislature’s decision. Whatever lawmakers decide this session likely will have lasting effects on the drug policy and criminal justice system throughout Washington.

The Supreme Court’s decision has led to confusion across the criminal justice system, with some jurisdictions pausing all hearings regarding simple possession and others creating their own rules for how to prosecute these cases. That’s led to a patchwork of regulations that could be confusing without guidance from the Legislature or courts. Thousands of people with previous or pending drug charges could have their sentences revised, but it’s uncertain who would be entitled to such a review.

Many people are anxiously awaiting a “fix” from the Legislature, but with less than one week left in an already busy legislative session, lawmakers are scrambling.

The state Senate passed a bill Thursday that would reinstate criminal penalties for knowingly possessing controlled substances, only this time making it a gross misdemeanor instead of a felony.

If passed, the bill would require those arrested for possession to be diverted to a treatment program for their first two offenses. After that, treatment would be encouraged but not required, allowing prosecutors to pursue penalties up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $5,000, under state law. Prior to the Supreme Court’s ruling, a person found guilty of simple possession could be sentenced up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 under state law.

The bill still has a long way to go in the House, which has its own proposal that focuses more on expanding treatment.

The debate on the Senate floor highlighted the deep divides within the Legislature on drug policy. It passed 28-20. Fourteen Democrats voted in favor, and 14 voted against.

While there is agreement that treatment should be at the forefront of the discussion, lawmakers can’t seem to agree on how to get there. Many Republicans and some moderate Democrats voted in favor of the change to a gross misdemeanor, with the thought that using the criminal justice system is the best way to get users the treatment they need.

Those who voted in favor argued that a gross misdemeanor with treatment is the best compromise .

Senate Minority Leader John Braun, R-Centralia, said the bill is the right approach because there needs to be a way for people to get treatment.

“The war on drugs has not served us well,” he said. “We aren’t getting it right, and people are suffering.”

Some, however, don’t want to see the state move toward any version of decriminalization.

“I don’t think we want to go down this route, which is toward legalization,” said Sen. Mike Padden, R-Spokane Valley, voting no on the bill.

Arizona Senate Is Ready for Audit of Maricopa County’s 2020 Election Results to Begin – The Democrats Are In a Panic

It’s been months since the results of the 2020 Election were called for Joe Biden late Election night with 25% of the vote still outstanding.

Joe Biden became the first Democrat to win Arizona in decades and the first Democrat to win Maricopa County, where Pheonix is located, since Harry Truman. This came as a surprise to most since when Biden and his unlikable VP Kamala Harris came to Phoenix less than a month before the election almost no one showed up.

Since this time, much has gone on. The state politicians gave the race to Joe Biden but many individuals in Arizona called BS. These patriots began a grassroots effort to have the votes in Arizona, but especially Maricopa County, looked into. They petitioned the State Senate to perform an audit with qualified auditors who will do a thorough job.

Maricopa County’s Board of Supervisors sued the Senate to prevent them from performing an audit saying that the law states that they cannot unseal ballots after the election and therefore an audit of the ballots cannot happen. This ended up in court and the Senate updated the laws grandfathered in as of January 2020 so that they could perform their audit. The courts agreed with the Senate and claimed they could perform their audit as well.

Next, the County said they could only have qualified auditors perform the audit. This was another way of the Board of Supervisors saying that they wanted to choose the auditors. The two firms selected turned out to not be certified as the County promised but they went ahead with them anyway.

We will see how this week goes. Senate leader Karen Fann shared recently:

“The Maricopa BOS has refused to allow us to perform the audit at their facilities,” Fann said, “and has gone so far as to refusing to even answer simple questions such as, ‘How are the ballots sequestered?'”

Gov. Whitmer Tries to Shift Blame to Legislature for Rising Covid Numbers

At one time, Joe Biden was apparently considering Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer as a vice-presidential candidate. She had gotten glowing media notices after she stood up to Donald Trump and she was the right gender.

Alas, Biden must have seen something in Whitmer’s character that caused him to pull back. Maybe it was her inability to take responsibility for her actions.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday that the recent surge in coronavirus cases that has made Michigan a national outlier is partly the result of a Michigan Supreme Court ruling that struck down a key law she has used to fight the pandemic.

It was a departure from statements Whitmer made immediately following the October ruling, when she said she mostly retained powers related to public health measures but would require legislative approval for other measures, such as extending unemployment insurance benefits and allowing local governments to hold their public meetings remotely. Also, Whitmer in recent months has eased coronavirus restrictions voluntarily — not in response to court rulings — despite rising case numbers.

Whitmer was one of the most panicky Democratic governors when the pandemic hit. She not only shut everything down, she made it illegal for Michigan residents to travel to their own vacation homes. She also tried to ban motorboats. In Michigan.

That motorboat ban didn’t last long. It was rescinded less than two weeks later following a threatened suit by the state’s largest conservation group.

But it was no secret that Whitmer was running around like a chicken without a head. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that she blames others for the spike in Covid cases.

“I have been sued by my Legislature, I have lost in a Republican-controlled (Michigan) Supreme Court, and I don’t have all of the exact same tools,” Whitmer said after host Chuck Todd played her clips of previous statements she had made that Todd suggested she has changed her tune about following the science to address the pandemic.

Whitmer on Sunday did say Michigan still has “strong measures to keep people safe,” including a face mask requirement, and is “still doing what we can.” She also cited the success Michigan had early on during the pandemic, when she imposed strict measures on business and other activities, which she said resulted in “vast reservoirs of people who don’t have antibodies,” who are susceptible to highly contagious variants now circulating.

Did you follow that? Because she did such a great job at the beginning of the pandemic, more people are getting sick now because they don’t have antibodies… or something.

Whitmer’s policies have made things worse, not better. She’s attempting to get control of the pandemic without returning to the draconian shutdown measures that have nearly destroyed the Michigan economy. That’s a step in the right direction. But thanks to her previous policies, the state is going to have to endure this surge in Covid cases until it runs its course.

Leaked Data Reportedly Shows Cops Donated to Kyle Rittenhouse's Legal Defense Fund

A new investigation from The Guardian shows police and other public officials have been financially contributing to the legal defense of Kyle Rittenhouse, the 18-year-old “Kenosha shooter” and rightwing icon currently on trial for the deaths of two people.

Rittenhouse became infamous last summer after traveling from his home in Illinois to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he disastrously inserted himself into the local political turmoil inspired by a police-involved shooting and ended up killing two people with an AR-15 style rifle.

A recent data breach involving the Christian crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo shows just how much online support the shooter would appear to have in rightwing circles—including some members of our nation’s law enforcement community. Using the platform, Rittenhouse raised upwards of half a million dollars over a period of several months—clearing $586,940 between last August and early January of this year. A certain number of those contributions apparently came from police and other public officials spread throughout the country.

According to The Guardian, the data appears to have included internal comments provided by contributors: “God bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You’ve done nothing wrong,” said an internal affairs officer with the Norfolk police department in Virginia, chipping in $25 to Rittenhouse’s defense. “Every rank and file police officer supports you. Don’t be discouraged by actions of the political class of law enforcement leadership.”

Biden Administration is Looking for a 6.3% Increase in NASA’s Budget for 2022

The proposed budget was released on April 9th, and, at 58 pages, goes into high level details about almost every part of federal spending. The section regarding NASA is only about a page long, but has some useful hints at how the new administration views the role of its space exploration arm. In order to fulfill that role, the administration plans to spend $24.7 billion on the agency, an increase of 6.3% over the funded level last year.

NATO Nations Train, Arm Ukrainian Military for War With Russia

“We are concerned by reports that Russia plans to restrict access to parts of the Black Sea and the Kerch Strait. This would be an unjustified move, and part of a broader pattern of destabilising behaviour by Russia. We call on Russia to ensure free access to Ukrainian ports in the Sea of ​​Azov, and allow freedom of navigation.”

The Kerch Strait connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Azov. With Crimea part of Russia again, the land on either side of the strait is Russian territory. As the land on both sides of the Dardanelles and Bosporus is Turkish. Russia has said nothing about preventing Ukrainian vessels from entering and leaving the Sea of Azov. Instead it announced that it would temporarily bar vessels from part of its coast near the Kerch Strait while it conducted exercises nearby.

British Government Shocking Report on Side Effects of Corona Vaccines: Strokes, Blindness, Miscarriages

A report from the UK Medicines Agency reveals more side effects from the Corona vaccinations

In total, more than 30,000 vaccinees reported more than 100,000 adverse reactions to the vaccine by the end of January. Most notable are 13 people who went blind after the vaccination, eight miscarriages and a total of 236 fatal cases, Epoch Times reports.

The list of side effects and adverse reactions to Corona vaccinations is getting longer. A report by the UK’s Medicines Regulatory Agency (MHRA, a body that licenses and oversees medicines in the UK, similar to the Paul Ehrlich Institute in Germany) now adds blindness and miscarriages to already known reactions to vaccines, such as pain, facial paralysis and blood disorders. The report was updated on February 11 to include reports of suspected adverse reactions from the start of the vaccination campaign on December 9 through the end of January.

Officials say that “more than 110,000 people in the UK have died within 28 days of a positive coronal test.” By comparison, about four million people tested positive, while overseas colonies (including Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda) contributed a few thousand cases. This results in a mortality rate of about 2.5 percent, which is roughly equivalent to the mortality rate of a regular flu.

“Get Out!” – Leftist Union Leaders in Minnesota Expel National Guard Members from Labor Center Who Were There to Protect the Community

Union members and far left activists expelled National Guard members from their St. Paul Labor Center on Friday after they heard the guard was resting there.

The leftists told the National Guard to “Get out!” and “Go home!”

The National Guard is in the Twin Cities to prevent the total destruction of the community like complete carnage of the violent left last year.

Union members in St. Paul kicked out Minnesota National Guard soldiers who were using the St. Paul Labor Center on West 7th Street as a temporary staging area Wednesday night.

In a video posted on Facebook by a registered nurse and member of the Minnesota Nurses Association, union members can be seen and heard mocking the soldiers and telling them to “get out” and “go home.”

It happened as the National Guard was mobilizing in the aftermath of the killing of Daunte Wright by a Brooklyn Center police officer.

“We came down here to confront them,” Cliff Willmeng, a registered nurse, says on the video he posted. “The labor movement and the National Guard has had a river of blood between the two institutions.”

Top European football clubs agree to form new Super League, ignoring threats of BANS from domestic & international leagues

Manchester United, Real Madrid and 10 other top European football clubs have formed a new Super League, promising investments in “higher-quality” football and greater revenues for themselves, despite threats of bans from UEFA.

The 12 founding clubs said in a statement Sunday that they will govern the breakaway league themselves, and the inaugural season will be “as soon as practicable.” Three additional founding clubs are expected to join, and five other teams will qualify annually based on their performance in the prior season.

Besides Manchester United and Real Madrid, founding clubs include Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan, Arsenal, Atletico de Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Internazionale Milano, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. They agreed to go forward with the plan despite threats of being banned from participating in their domestic leagues.

“Going forward, the founding clubs look forward to holding discussions with UEFA and FIFA to work together in partnership to deliver the best outcomes for the new league and for football as a whole,” the 12 clubs said.

Ahead of the announcement, UEFA already expressed its fury over the plan, claiming it would undertake “all measures available to us, at all levels, both judicial and sporting in order to prevent this happening.”

As previously announced by FIFA and the six Confederations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams.
