Twenty-six years ago today at 9:02 a.m. the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed. I was there.
At that time, I was living in Oklahoma City. My nextdoor neighbor on one side was an OKC policeman. On the other side was a US Marshall. We were all good friends. The policeman kept his refrigerator in the garage stocked with beer and wine and we would all gather in the driveway outside the garage in lawn chairs and have a beer and visit every evening. That is…until the bombing.
Two or three days after the bombing, the US Marshal and his wife were walking their dogs past my house. I went outside to speak with them. I asked him what his thoughts were about the bombing. He started crying and said "I can't talk about it". His wife then told me that they were moving. They were gone within the week.
Later, I asked my policeman friend about the bombing and why our neighbors had moved away. He said, "I'm going to say this and then I never want to talk about it again. There is much more to the story than we're being told."
