so the question really should be at what age does the brain fully realize things and mature. "science" has pushed it out to 25, so up until that point the brain is flexible can learn and grow, etc, But we have society saying you can kill in the military at 18, and vote and that was only recently in history relatively . We have drinking age of 21, can't rent a car till you are 25 i think it is in the US. But children can be tried as adults for murder because they should know better? complicating the matter is that each state has different laws on the book that says what a minor is or isn't. Society used to be very different 100 years ago, and perhaps we have stretched out a childs life for good and bad over that period. But until we come to some base level of consensus of what is vs what isn't it won't matter. Because if lets say a 14 year old can be tried as an adult for murder, what makes them different than one who is having intimate relations. is it done on a individual basis? what are the standards that should be applied universally? Our labels are all fucked. no pun intended.
was your grandfather brought up in a religious household? I think that is part of what is missing now so that "children" can mature and understand the world and do service vs playing nintendo all day. It is at least one of the variables.
