Could "Guardian" of the Pope mean "guardian" as in "ward" (like the guardian of a minor)?

… which link is near the top of results if you google "Rothschild guardian of the pope" (at least it was for me). I found the discussion of "guardianship" of the pope to be relevant.
If the Rothschilds are the guardians of the pope in this sense, then does that not make the Rothschilds the end boss?
