My take is that Cohen never "flipped" because he was never really on Trump's side to begin with. Trump hires the best at their respective task even if they are dirty, traitorous, or just plain terrible people. Read Trump's books and you'll see what I mean. He says this flat out. Many of the best businessmen and attorneys are not good people, and he knows it. When they part ways, if they displayed loyalty, Trump offers them help in return, if they are disloyal he helps destroy them completely. This has been Trump's pattern since the 80s.

I believe Manafort was also a plant who was against Trump, however I think Manafort has gained Trump's respect by not selling him out or making up stories. Manafort was likely a set up to be jailed regardless of the election outcome, too. He crossed the cabal when he supported the disposed Ukrainian President who sided with Putin in the Ukrainian civil war. To gain penance with the cabal, they sent him to spy/set up/sabotage Trump, unaware that he was being set up too. Trump knew this all along. and the second that he was no longer useful as wrangling primary delegates, he was fired. Despite Manafort being dirty as fuck, I think he may get a pardon, or more likely his sentence commuted in a few years because of his "loyalty", or more realistically, his self-interest.
