Ken Starr: No evidence Trump 'has committed high crimes and misdemeanors'
Ken Starr, the independent counsel who investigated former President Bill Clinton and his extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky in the 1990s, isn't aware of any evidence that could lead to President Trump's impeachment. "Not even close. I know of no evidence that would suggest that he has committed high crimes and misdemeanors," Starr said during an interview with "The Cats Roundtable" radio host John Catsimatidis.
Starr, however, qualified his comments, saying he isn't abreast of all that special counsel Robert Mueller has found over the course of his federal Russia inquiry. Star also warned Democrats to "be very careful before you move the country toward impeachment," saying that he preferred political differences to be settled at the ballot box. "It’s inherently divisive and, essentially, you need a consensus among ‘we the people,’" Starr said. "We had that with Richard Nixon. We did not have it with Bill Clinton. We didn’t even have it a century and a half ago with Andrew Johnson right after the Civil War. And we certainly don’t have it with Donald Trump." "Let’s not try to overturn a presidential election, except for the most compelling reasons," he added. "Let’s rely on the democratic process.“ Starr is promoting his memoir, Contempt, which relives his work as part of the Whitewater probe into Clinton.
