These California races are still too close to call due to ballots left to be counted
Voting is over, but counting is not. Election polls in California closed Tuesday night but election officials are still tallying hundreds of thousands of votes in individual counties across the state. Particularly close are eight prominent statewide political races that are not yet determined as well as a couple high-profile elections in San Diego County that may come down to the wire. Final results don’t have to be certified until Dec. 14, and California has as many as 4.5 million of collective outstanding votes from provisional ballots and vote-by-mail ballots left to be counted in 58 counties.
Here’s what that looked like in Southern California. Some 465,000 ballots remained to be counted in San Diego County, officials said Thursday. Some 404,145 ballots were still being counted in Orange County, per the election officials there. And some 984,000 ballots were still being counted in Los Angeles County, its county clerk said Thursday. And then, there was this: In Contra Costa County, officials were also busy sending wrongly delivered ballots to their respective counties.
