When we examine the forked staff carefully, we see that it is very similar to the staff used in witchcraft, which is called a stang.

The stang or staff represents stability and is often seen being handled by God.

The stang is a forked staff and it represnts the axis from which all things evolove around.

So to hold the staff means you are at the center of the universe.

It can also be used as an alter and when placed in the ground becomes a focus for the ritual site and is decorated in seasonal foliage to symbolize the different festivals of the witches' year.
