TBH I don't see it that way.

Bernie was going all in in 2016, and that's where the push started b/c (a) Berners saw he had success with that approach and would have won the nomination if it wasn't for fuckery by DNC and HRC campaign; (b) post-2016, pissed-off Berners organized to push out DNC establishment candidates (see: Justice Democrats) which is getting us the likes of AOC and associated policies.
