Leadership gap in City Hall grows as commissioners leave in de Blasio's second term
Joseph Esposito, was quoted in a standard weather advisory last month warning travelers of perilous road conditions.
Esposito had been fired three months earlier.
“He is still currently the commissioner at the Office of Emergency Management,” agency spokesperson Omar Bourne told POLITICO last week, seeking to clarify the confusion.
There is an “ongoing search” to replace him, said the mayor’s spokesperson, Eric Phillips.
Esposito’s ambiguous status is part of a yawning leadership gap at City Hall, as commissioners head for the exits, often without permanent successors in place

Robert Mueller pursues new Trump-Russia collusion leads despite talk of probe winding down
Former acting Attorney General Matthew G. Whitaker said in January that he had been read-in on the nearly two-year probe and concluded it was “close to being completed.”
But there are signs that Russia issues remain:
• Court filings in the prosecution of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort show that Mr. Mueller is still investigating a fall 2016 meeting at a Manhattan cigar bar where the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Russia was discussed.
• Mr. Mueller still has questions about the Ukraine amendment to the 2016 Republican Party platform.

Marco Rubio gets crucified by Twitter after boldly reciting cliché Bible verse
Rubio’s Bible dabbling comes a week after the lawmaker declared that power outages in Venezuela were caused by an explosion at a ‘German Dam’ – which does not exist and is actually the name of a journalist who reported on the blackouts. The factually-challenged tweet remained online for several days, before it was quietly deleted.

Tech giants will have to be regulated in future to protect citizens – EU’s Timmermans
The EU and authorities around the world will have to regulate big technology and social media companies at some stage, the deputy head of the European Commission said on Monday. First Vice President Frans Timmermans said introducing regulations would work better if online platforms, such as Google and Facebook, worked with authorities, Reuters reports. “At some point, we will have to regulate,” Timmermans told the World Policy Forum in Berlin. “The first task of any public authority is to protect its citizens,” the official noted. “If we see you [tech giants] as a threat to our citizens, we will regulate and if you don’t work with us, we will probably regulate badly.”

China’s FM Wang Yi lashes out at ‘immoral’ attacks on Huawei
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi hit out on Monday at “abnormal, immoral” attacks on Huawei amid growing concern, led by the US, that the telecom giant poses a security risk to the West. Wang demanded a “fair and just competition environment” for Chinese firms as he met EU foreign ministers and officials for talks in Brussels, AFP said. Washington is stepping up pressure on allies, particularly in Europe, to shut Huawei out of tenders for fast fifth-generation telecom networks, citing the firm’s alleged ties to the Chinese government. “China hopes all countries will create a fair and just competition environment for companies of all countries,” Wang said. “What we oppose is groundless accusations out of political purposes and attempts to bring down a foreign company.” Huawei denies allegations its equipment could be used for espionage.
