I just want to clarify that "open source" has multiple meanings.
In software, it means that the code which was written by humans and is comprehensible to humans is available for examination, so we are not given binary code that computers can execute but which is incomprehensible to humans and might contain secret malicious instructions.
In intelligence, open source refers to information which is accessible to the public already in publications, on websites and so on. This distinguishes it secret information, not classified information.
Information can be both classified and public knowledge. It is a crime to reveal classified information, but it is not a crime to reveal non-classified information which inspires the reader to research and discover classified information from public sources.
Q gives us cryptic puzzles instead of straightforward information because of this.
I looked for Q's usage of the phrase "open source" to see which way he was using it, and whether "Open source" was used differently from "open source" or if he could be using it in both senses.
I think nearly all of his usages have been in the sense of intelligence - meaning "this is information you can get publicly."
The one example which might be used in the software sense is from post 809:

Q
"Open source server" could refer to software, or it could refer to public information about Hillary's server or it could mean that Hillary was using her server to publish secret information.
Other cases indicate that Q uses "open source" to refer to publishing, such as post 570, where he says:
>Snowden open source Prism/Keyscore (catastrophic to US Mil v. bad actors (WW) +Clowns/-No Such Agency)
I think he means that Snowden published information damaging to NSA. He "open sourced" it.
Q also refers to "open source" as a principle or aspiration to make information available to the public, such as post 738 where he says:
>We share the idea of open source but value life and must make decisions base decisions on outcomes and containability.
