On the boatfag notables I just looked at……….

As for looking for “high end yachts” or any vessel sailing on any ocean or sea, thinking they can always be seen with AIS software is, I’m sorry to say, a bit of a laugh.

If you don’t know it’s AIS # or exact name, place of flag etc it may only show up if it happens to be reporting when you engage the software. Even then you may only see it’s last reported position, if any at all.

Many vessels of all types keep their AIS systems off for long periods of time.

I’ve been tracking commercial vessels for years.

Some of you may remember some posts I put up about odd “SAR” vessels just South of Nova Scotia registered out of Finland and how they somehow managed to travel halfway around the world in just a few days then were postioned under extremely odd weather radar returns.

Crickets.

Anyway, any yacht that wants to run without being seen by “boatfags” can do so at will.

Even commercial trawlers (offshore fishing boats) who are required by law to transmit AIS data go dark for days and days at a time.

I know of multiple such vessels doing just this right now.

Sorry if this dissapoints the boatfags.

Just trying to pass on a bit of knowledge.

Cheers……
