That stood out to me too. I felt that there was very, very special significance to that choice of words; but I can't quite identify what. As he was saying that I thought of the shape of the "physics package" in a nuke.
That was an experimental test platform. We (the US) haven't actually deployed any hyper-sonic reentry glide vehicles yet (at least not publicly known).
