I don't understand the hoopla about wondering whether we're alone in the universe.

First, the statistical probability of us being alone is pretty low.

Second, it'd actually be unspeakably depressing if we were.

We have some enormous challenges to overcome to travel the distances involved, though.

Could others have already figured out how to do it? Well, sure, it's not impossible.

Will they look weird?

What's "weird"? Lobsters? Garden slugs? Those incredible things that live in the deepest ocean depths, that have their own lumination?

I might need a shot of Jim Beam to brace myself for meeting 'em, but I'm game for it.

>It was so groundbreaking someone made it the best kept secret in the history of mil int secrecy. Why is that?

Guess #1: They want to kill us, a la "Independence Day"

or

Guess #2: They've been here for millennia already

or

Guess #3: They're so comprehensively brilliant, wise, and good that we'll never be able to live up to their example due to our lesser intellect

Exactly. We don't even have any numbers to do the math, which is a good reason to not spend much time worrying about it.

Right now, I'd just like for us all to make us through this Information/Silent War before I take the dirt nap.
