Afternoon guys, Navy Anon here.
Eanted to address a question about the meaning of signal flags asked on Saturday but never got a chance to see video of it until now (because reasons)…

1st flag hoist: November Charlie Oscar (and prolly Mike below that but I couldn't see) - all Navy ships have a visual call sign of 4 letters that always start with "N".They can relate to the ship's name. NCOM therefore makes sense.
2nd flag hoist: Code Penant and Hotel. Code H is universal for "pilot aboard". Harbor Pilots are experts in a port that assist large ships navigatingthe harbors coming and going.
3rd (center) flag hoist: A huge red cross, because medical…
4th flag hoist: couldnt tell but probably IS flag from it's center position on the mast. Smaller because you want combatants to see the big red cross and leave you alone.
5th flag hoist: State of Virginia courtesy flag. Though not official, they're often flown as a hat tip to the state hosting the ship.
