Syria Prepares For Military Confrontation With Turkey In Northeast

The Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces have put their forces on high alert in response to the new round of aggressive actions by the Turkish Army and its proxies in northeastern Syria.

Several convoys of government forces, including several T-62M battle tanks and a number of trucks equipped with heavy machine guns, deployed to the countryside of Ayn Issa after intense Turkish artillery strikes on positions of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and the army near al-Nuyhat in northern al-Hasakah and Hushanah in northern Raqqah. Another group of government troops deployed near the town of Tell Tamr.

According to local sources, the recent Turkish strikes led to no casualties among civilians or military personnel. Nonetheless, regular Turkish attacks on these areas in fact turned a large part of the territory located relatively close to the Turkish-occupied area into a no man’s land. Syrian state media also reported that Turkey set up a new training camp for its proxies northwest of Tell Tamr.

While the chances of an open full-scale military confrontation in northeastern Syria between Turkey and the Syrian Army remain low, the military stalemate with regular ceasefire violations clearly does not contribute to any kind of peace process.

Meanwhile, the US troops, which the Trump administration had supposedly mostly withdrawn from Syria some time ago, have been expanding their military infrastructure there. Recently, they set up a new airfield approximately 8km south of the town of al-Ya’rubiyah in the province of al-Hasakah. Local sources report that US forces are actively deploying new equipment and materials there, building up barracks and erecting concrete barriers. Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces are also allegedly involved in securing the perimeter of the airfield.

At least one soldier was killed and 3 others injured in an attack by gunmen on a checkpoint in the town of Talfita in the western part of the Qalamun region, near the border with Lebanon. Following the attack, the army and security forces deployed additional units to the area in order to find and neutralize the attackers. Hezbollah is reportedly also involved.

Such attacks in Western Qalamun are an uncommon development due to the strict security measures employed. A previous notable incident of this kind happened in December 2019, when gunmen stormed an army checkpoint in the town of Rankos in Eastern Qalamun. Then, all the attackers were tracked and neutralized in a series of operations within a few weeks of the incident.

The last time chief executive Mark Zuckerberg put profits ahead of principles he was accused of facilitating Russian intervention in US elections. Bowing to boycotters — many of which are multinationals or, as in the case of Unilever, domiciled abroad — could qualify as a form of political intervention or silencing.

Unilever is a British-Dutch company. Its headquarters is in the UK.

Its participation in the Facebook boycott, which is leveraged at censoring conservatives and, in particular, President Trump, is indeed a fairly blatant case of election interference, conspiring to prevent a political candidate and his supporters, from having a forum.

And not just any forum, but the largest forum around.

What is particularly damning is that Unilever’s boycott statement specifically mentioned the election.

Through this framework, we are actively engaging with all digital platforms to make meaningful change and impact trust and transparency. We have made substantial progress, and we acknowledge the efforts of our partners, but there is much more to be done, especially in the areas of divisiveness and hate speech during this polarized election period in the U.S

Russia’s constitutional amendments enter into force July 4

The changes were supported by 77.92% of the voters at polling stations, while 21.27% opposed them

MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an executive order, setting July 4 as the date when the Russian constitutional amendments come into effect, the Kremlin press service said Friday.

"The amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation <…will come into force on July 4, 2020," the order says.

In the same order, Putin instructed relevant authorities to officially publish the Russian constitution with the approved amendments. According to the law on amendments signed by the president earlier, the official publication should take place "immediately after the official announcement of the results of the Russia-wide vote."

The nationwide vote on amendments to the Russian constitution was completed across the whole country on Wednesday. Even though the official vote day was set for July 1 by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order, citizens could take part in it throughout the seven-day period between June 25 and July 1 due to coronavirus precautions meant to eliminate the risk of transmission. All votes cast throughout the voting period were tallied. According to the law, the absolute majority of voters who cast their ballots should back the amendments for them to enter into force, a minimal turnout level was not set. According to the Russian Central Election Commission, the changes were supported by 77.92% of the voters at polling stations, while 21.27% opposed them after 100% of voting protocols were processed. The official turnout was 67.97%.

Alarm grows over Americans stranded in Yemen amid pandemic

Advocates are warning that thousands of U.S. citizens remain stranded in Yemen more than three months after the country closed its borders to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Approximately 300 of the stranded citizens were brought home by the State Department on two flights on June 28 and July 1, but advocates have expressed alarm about those remaining in the country in what they characterize as an increasingly desperate situation.

Yemen has been embroiled in five years of civil war, suffering under the worst man-made humanitarian crisis ever that is further threatened by rising cases of COVID-19 in a health system that has essentially collapsed.

“Every single American deserves to have their government protect them when they are in harm's way in a foreign country and to be repatriated under a public health emergency that has really impacted the entire world,” said Ahmed Mohamed, litigation director for the New York office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

The U.S. citizens in Yemen are one of the few groups not included in the State Department’s efforts to repatriate over 100,000 Americans from 136 countries and territories. Those numbers were recorded up until June 10.

The oversight echoes criticisms the State Department received in the initial days of its repatriation efforts, with stranded Americans saying they felt abandoned by the U.S. government.

One of the stranded Americans is Miriam Alghazali, a 31-year-old mother of four, whose flight back to the U.S. was canceled in mid-March as Yemen closed its borders.

Miriam’s mother, Izdehar Alghazali, is in New York and has been trying for over three months to help her daughter and grandchildren return to the U.S. Like many other Americans stranded in Yemen, they had returned to see family for a months-long trip.

Alghazali had expected to come back to the U.S. before she gave birth to her fourth child, but went into premature labor in June in Sana’a, the rebel capital controlled by Iran-backed Houthis.

She has had to rely on the kindness of neighbors to help her and her children and get the family food. Her mother worries there’s a limit to the generosity, as all Yemenis are struggling under the civil war and the rising threat of COVID-19.

DOJ Has Brought Charges in 150 Federal Cases Linked to Rioting, US Attorney Says

The Justice Department (DOJ) has so far brought charges in 150 federal cases related to acts of violence amid nationwide protests that occurred in the wake of George Floyd’s death, according to the acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

The department and other federal agencies have been prioritizing efforts to quell outbreaks of violent rioting in several cities and restore law and order to those areas over the past month. The death of Floyd, a black man who died in the custody of Minneapolis police, sparked widespread protests across the nation to call for change over police brutality and policing practices. While many of the protests were peaceful, some cities were faced with the violent activity that has led to significant property damage and more than a dozen deaths.

Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, provided an update of the department’s efforts in the area on Thursday on Fox News Tucker Carlson’s show. He said that to date the U.S. attorney’s offices across the nation have brought charges in 150 cases related to the destruction of federal property and “a litany of other crimes that really have been lost in the shuffle,” including cases related to arson as well as murder in California.

He added that federal resources have also been used to assist with local and state authorities to charge hundreds of other cases related to state charges including assault and battery and theft.

16 Biden Union Allies Accused in Sexual Misconduct Suit

Federal workers have filed suit against 16 officials of the American Federation of Government Employees, accusing them of perpetuating racial and sexual misconduct and covering up the incidents. The suit sheds new light on former union President Jeffrey David Cox’s abuse of power and the resulting coverup of misconduct by his successor, Dr. Everett Kelley.

Cox allegedly would use the union’s limo to travel to strip clubs where he would hire male prostitutes. The suit also claims that leadership would rehire or reassign officials accused of misconduct.

AFGE strongly backs Joe Biden for president and is closely affiliated with the Democratic Party.

The union also provided an early boost to Biden’s campaign, hosting the former vice president at an event one week before he officially announced his candidacy. AFGE will most likely endorse the vice president for the 2020 election since its internal poll showed that a majority of its members support Biden over President Donald Trump.

The government union is also a prodigious campaign donor, funneling more than $1.1 million to Democratic operations such as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee during the 2018 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The group also spent $1.8 million on lobbying in 2019, advocating for pro-labor legislation.

Maybe Biden should disavow support from this union, which appears to be corrupt from top to bottom.

A prior independent investigation into Cox’s conduct—commissioned by AFGE—largely let Kelley off the hook. The lawsuit, however, contests the investigation’s conclusion, accusing Kelley of routinely covering up Cox’s troubling conduct. For example, when Cox inappropriately touched a male pool attendant at a hotel during an AFGE conference in 2017, Kelley did some “fast talking” to convince the hotel managers to allow the AFGE delegation to stay, according to a sworn statement provided by Pam Baca, an AFGE official. Cox suffered no repercussions for his sexual misconduct other than being forced to stay in his hotel room for the duration of the conference.

“Defendant Kelley did not appear to be alarmed or even surprised by the … sexual misconduct complaint,” according to the lawsuit. “In fact, Defendant Kelley’s response to Ms. Baca concerning the news was casual and even jocular.”

Kelley did more than make apologies for Cox’s abusive behavior. He also ignored charges against other subordinates, including one who pulled an Anthony Weiner on female employees.

Kelley also allegedly tolerated sexual misconduct allegations against his subordinates. In 2015, an AFGE trustee removed Jamie Dukes, vice president of a local union for a Georgia Army base, after learning that Dukes sent pictures of his genitalia to female union members. Kelley ordered Dukes’s reinstatement one month later, allowing him to continue his predatory behaviors, according to the lawsuit.

There are charges of blatant racism against some officials that was kept quiet through “a combination of cronyism and fear—rewarding his allies with bonuses and/or extravagant trips at union members’ expense while threatening to destroy anyone who challenged his authority.” Sounds like a typical labor thug to me.

Ordinarily, Biden wouldn’t be allowed to let this pass. But who’s going to call him out on it? Certainly not the media or other Democrats. Certainly not his allies in the women’s movement or the civil rights lobby.

The AFGE will continue to donate millions to Biden and the Democrats with nary a whisper against them. It’s nice to have friends in high places.

President's Niece Mary Trump Says Confidentiality Agreement She Signed Was Based On Fraudulent Information

Mary Trump says she never believed the agreement would prevent her from writing a book about her uncle's character

As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to release opinions on whether prosecutors and House committees should have access to President Trump’s tax returns, his niece, Mary L. Trump, has asked a New York court to lift a restraining order against her because the confidentiality agreement she signed was based on fraudulent information.

In an affidavit filed in New York Supreme Court, Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist, says she never believed the confidentiality agreement signed two decades ago would prevent her from writing a book about her uncle’s character. A hearing is set for July 10.

The filing came a day after an appellate court lifted a restraining order against Simon & Schuster, opening the way for distribution of “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.” Preorders have boosted the book to the top of bestseller lists ahead of the July 28 publication date, and thousands of copies already have been sent to retailers.

“The legitimate interest in preserving family secrets may be one thing for the family of a real estate developer, no matter how successful; it is another matter for the family of the president of the United States,” Presiding Justice Alan Scheinkman wrote in lifting the order.

President Trump’s brother, Robert, asked the courts to block publication.

The confidentiality agreement was part of a settlement of an inheritance dispute involving her grandfather's estate. Mary Trump, whose father Fred Jr. died of an alcohol-related disease, said she agreed to the settlement based on asset valuations that since have proved inaccurate. She said in the affidavit she never would have entered the settlement if she had known the valuations were “fraudulent.”

“I never believed that the settlement agreement resolving discrete financial disputes could possibly restrict me from telling the story of my life or publishing a book discussing anything contained in the book, including the conduct and character of my uncle, the sitting president of the United States, during his campaign for reelection,” she said in the affidavit.

Hillary Clinton: ‘I Would Have Done a Better Job’ than Trump on Coronavirus

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton stated in an interview published Friday that she would have done a “better job” than President Trump in response to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

“We wouldn’t have been able to stop the pandemic at our borders the way that Trump claimed in the beginning, but we sure could have done a better job saving lives, modeling better, more responsible behavior,” Clinton told the Hollywood Reporter when asked if she would have handled the “current moment of crisis” better than President Trump.

“I don’t think we necessarily should have had as deep an economic assault on livelihoods and jobs as we have. So I know I would have done a better job,” she continued without providing further detail on how she would have, specifically, better responded to the virus as Commander-in-Chief and lessened the “economic assault.”

Despite Clinton’s implication, the president took decisive action at the start of the pandemic, restricting entry into the U.S. of travelers from China, as the New York Times reported on January 31:

Moving to counter the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the Trump administration said Friday that it would bar entry by most foreign nationals who had recently visited China and put some American travelers under a quarantine as it declared a rare public health emergency.

In March, Trump suspended travel from the European Union, followed by the closure of the northern and southern U.S. borders to non-essential travel to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Trump allowed governors to decide how to handle the outbreak state-by-state, as most effectively shut down, leading to a virtual economic standstill and millions of jobs lost. His administration assembled a Coronavirus Task Force, holding daily briefings as Congress passed the $2 trillion CARES Act, providing economic relief to families and businesses through forgivable loans and $1,200 stimulus checks.

Trump also refused to ignore the role the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) purportedly played in working with China to cover up the severity of the outbreak, halting funding to the W.H.O. in April and announcing the termination of the United States’ relationship with the organization in May.

Trump said that the WHO failed to act on reforms that the United States had demanded, prompting his decision to end America’s role with the organization.

“We have detailed the reforms that it must make and engage with them directly, but they have refused to act,” he said.

Trump said that the United States would use the hundreds of millions previously sent to the WHO to other international aid programs.

Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday spoke about the administration’s efforts to ensure an abundance of PPE in the country and said that the U.S. is “well on our way to manufacturing 100,000 ventilators in 100 days.”

“And in just a matter of the next two weeks, we’ll have 50,000 ventilators in the Strategic National Stockpile,” he said.

EXCLUSIVE — A woman who claims Ghislaine Maxwell raped her dozens of times – beginning when she was just 14 years old – says she is willing to take the stand and testify against Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Jane Doe, who wishes to protect her identity, said Maxwell sexually abused her beginning in 1991 in Florida. She said the abuse continued until she was 16.

Maxwell was arrested Thursday on federal charges for facilitating and participating in sexual abuse acts with minors,

“She did rape me. I would say it’s more than 20 or 30 times,” she said. “She is just as evil as Jeffrey Epstein … She is a rapist.”

Jane Doe claims years of sexual abuse came to an end only after she became pregnant with Jeffrey Epstein’s baby. At age 16, she had an abortion.

“I had never been with anyone except for him [Epstein],” said Doe, who is part of a lawsuit filed against Epstein’s estate over a year ago. “The fact that I had to kill my child really affected me and my family.”

Suspecting that she had told her grandparents about the abortion, and fearful she would talk to authorities, Doe says, Maxwell, Epstein and others gang-raped her one last time as punishment. “Ghislaine was a part of it,” Doe said. “I was drugged.”

After the rape, Doe said, a driver with a gun drove her to her home. “I was dumped off in my grandparents yard naked, and was told that I wouldn’t come back alive the next time,” Doe said.

Fearful for her life, Doe said, her grandfather put her into hiding. She dropped out of high school. “I basically kind of vanished,” she said. “Ms. Maxwell was a participant, and she made it very clear that I was to keep my mouth shut or harm would come to my family and myself and harm did come to me.”

Schumer: Trump Is the ‘Weakest’ President in American History

Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called President Donald Trump the “weakest” president in American history.

Schumer said, “President Trump from day one has shown such weakness to Vladimir Putin that an autocratic power-grabbing man like him will constantly take advantage and he has been doing that through the years. The Greatest (COVID-19) Story Never Told: Pandemic Currently Isn’t Producing Excess Mortality!

This week the BBC had the journalistic integrity and professionalism to publish a story that you can be sure that newsmen in this country would never touch.

It concerns the fact that Britain has reached a milestone in its battle against COVID-19: it has wrestled the disease into submission, such that the daily count of deaths in the U.K. has returned to the “normal” range.

People continue to sicken and die of COVID-19, in other words, but they are few enough in number that the overall impact on mortality is insignificant. No wonder, then, that the government of Boris Johnson is pushing ahead with plans to reopen the British economy and restart many aspects of daily life.

In the U.S., by contrast, the media, in its rush to lead with any story that promotes pessimism, despair, and/or panic relative to the coronavirus, has lost track of many of the metrics that ought to guide any rational, proportional analysis of the disease and its wider impact. More important than the facts, apparently, is the overriding imperative of weaponizing the pandemic against President Trump and Republicans, as well as frightening older Americans — the primary consumers of the news — into reading newspapers and watching cable news obsessively…as though their lives depended on it.

Among the indicators of little import to the U.S. news media is this one: how many people in this country have had COVID-19?

For a while, we were informed that numerous antibody studies were revealing that many more Americans had been exposed to the virus than the count of “confirmed cases” would suggest. These stories, however, had the unintended side-effect of undercutting the idea that COVID-19 “is death”, to quote pandemic superstar New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

In other words, if the percentage of people who get the disease and then die of it is very small, then it would make little sense to live in constant fear of infection. Thus, because it is more important to scare the American people than it is to inform them, antibody tests are, ipso facto, no longer news.

The media doesn’t care how many Americans have been exposed to COVID-19. Instead it focuses relentlessly on confirmed case counts. This is because, thanks to ever-expanding testing regimes as well as localized spikes in infections, these numbers are virtually guaranteed to titillate and alarm. Enough said.

Another under-reported metric is: what is the true fatality rate of the disease? You would think a basic question like this one would be of critical importance in navigating any epidemic, let alone a pandemic. As estimates of the actual COVID-19 fatality rate have trended steadily downwards, though, so has the news media’s interest.

The CDC’s most recent estimate of a fatality rate of about one-quarter of a percent is a real downer, from the perspective of news editors. And so, they conclude, the metrics be damned! Anecdotal stories of suffering and loss are far more captivating, not to mention politically expedient. Let’s lead with those, then.

Perhaps most importantly, we need to know: how many people have died of COVID-19, and, more specifically, how many more people have died, because of COVID-19, than would have done so in a typical day, or week, or month, or year?

Australia’s longest serving Finance Minister has denied growing speculation he will quit politics for months, but has responded with notable silence to three reports in the last month that he plans to resign.

But his departure also is set to remind voters of the ongoing leadership fallout within the Coalition over the ascension of Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his increasing popularity, dominance and control of the government in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last month, there was even speculation that he might return to Europe in a diplomatic posting for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

But the Belgian-born Liberal senator told friends he is more attracted to making some money in the corporate sector.

Massachusetts city approves polyamory, the inevitable consequence of gay ‘marriage’

Once we start redefining marriage, 'those redefinitions have no principled stopping point.'

July 3, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Earlier this year, a Utah Republican put forward a bill to decriminalize polygamy, receiving unanimous consent almost immediately from a key Senate committee. At the time, I noted that this was unsurprising: Once marriage was redefined and placed in a panoply of morally acceptable romantic arrangements, it was only a matter of time before the number of partners would mean as much as the sex of the partners. Which is to say, nothing. Even promiscuous multi-taskers can demand that the government endorse and financially support their sexual arrangements.

The word “family” now has no readily available meaning, and as such, the goalposts are shifting accordingly. On July 1, the New York Times reported, the City Council of Somerville, Massachusetts “now grants polyamorous groups the rights held by spouses in marriage, such as the right to confer health insurance benefits or make hospital visits.” Councillor J.T. Scott, who proudly noted that this was most likely the first municipal ordinance of this sort in the country (although surely not the last), attempted to pretend that this was simply a recognition of the large extended families that were once so common.

“People have been living in families that include more than two adults forever,” Scott said. “Here in Somerville, families sometimes look like one man and one woman, but sometimes it looks like two people everyone on the block thinks are sisters because they’ve lived together forever, or sometimes it’s an aunt and an uncle, or an aunt and two uncles, raising two kids.” That gibberish aside, Scott says he knows of “at least two dozen polyamorous households in Somerville,” a city of only 80,000. Thus, the demand for formal recognition of fornication was pressing.

On Twitter, Ryan T. Anderson, scholar and author of What is Marriage and When Harry Became Sally, noted that this had been inevitable. He, and others, had predicted this before 2015’s Obergefell decision: “If the law redefines marriage to say the male-female aspect is arbitrary, what principle will be left to retain monogamy? If justice demands redefining marriage to include the same-sex couple, [what about] the throuple? Love equals love, after all.”

“Once the law and culture says the male-female aspect of marriage violates justice and equality,” Anderson added, “we haven’t ‘expanded’ marriage, we’ve fundamentally redefined what it is. And those redefinitions have no principled stopping point.”

The Somerville City Council passed the motion unanimously, and the author of the ordinance, Lance Davis, even attempted to defend it in libertarian terms. “I don’t think it’s the place of the government to tell people what is or is not a family,” he told the New York Times. “Defining families is something that historically we’ve gotten quite wrong as a society, and we ought not to continue to try and undertake to do so…Based on conversations I’ve had, the most important aspect is that the city is legally recognizing and validating people’s existence. That’s the first time this is happening.”

And as far as Davis is concerned, the more the merrier. If twenty people approach the city seeking to be registered as a collective domestic partnership, Davis is proud to facilitate that. “I say, well what if they do?” he said. “I see no reason to think that is more of an issue than two people.”

Supreme Court Stops Obama Judge From Ending Voter ID For Voting in Alabama

The US Supreme Court on Thursday blocked a lower-court ruling that would have allowed residents of Alabama to vote by absentee ballot without providing a copy of a photo ID.

Alabama also requires the absentee ballot to be signed by two witnesses or notarized.

Last month, Obama-appointed judge Abdul Kallon waived the requirement for photo ID or that voters get their absentee ballots notarized.

Abdul Kallon also said Alabama could not forbid local officials from allowing ‘curbside’ voting during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Supreme Court blocked the Obama judge’s order in a 5-4 ruling.

Reuters reported:

A U.S. district court judge in Birmingham, Alabama’s largest city, issued a ruling in June that would have effectively freed voters from the photo I.D. requirement, in some counties, if they are 65 or older or have a disability. Under that ruling, voters with medical conditions that put them at risk of COVID-19 could sidestep the requirement to have their ballots signed by a witness.

The judge also would have blocked Alabama from restricting counties that wished to establish curbside voting.

But the Supreme Court blocked the district court ruling in a 5-4 decision along ideological lines at least until an appeals process is resolved.

The case deals with Alabama’s July 14 runoff election, which was postponed from March due to the pandemic and includes a Republican Senate primary between onetime U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former college football coach Tommy Tuberville.

Canada Suspends Extradition Treaty With Hong Kong, Slams "Secretive" New Law

In massive new fallout two days after China's new Hong Kong national security law went into effect, Canada announced Friday it will suspend its extradition treaty with Hong Kong. This effectively opens the door for Hong Kong democracy activists, who might potentially find themselves "wanted" by pro-Beijing authorities and accused of crimes, to seek out Canada as a safe-haven. No longer will Canada agree to extradite 'criminals' back to Hong Kong.

As we've noted, this week the exodus of young anti-Beijing activists has already begun over fears they could be charged on "terrorism and subversion" just for leading protests with now banned slogans and 'revolutionary' signs.

But the drastic Canada move - also coming at a time of rapidly worsening US-China and UK-China relations - has further implications touching on trade and military ties, as Reuters reports of the latest government statements:

In a statement, Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne also said Ottawa would not permit the export of sensitive military items to Hong Kong, which is home to around 300,000 Canadians.

…Champagne condemned the "secretive" way the legislation had been enacted and said Canada had been forced to reassess existing arrangements.

This includes "closed trials" and lack of independent review or appeal, with the potential for life in prison for certain egregious crimes deemed motivated by terrorism or separatism. In his statement Champagne announced: "Canada will treat exports of sensitive goods to Hong Kong in the same way as those destined for China. Canada will not permit the export of sensitive military items to Hong Kong."

NATO 2020: A Coalition of the Unwilling

Too many cooks spoil the broth

The problem with alliances is that they ultimately either become victims of their own success, or cannot figure out what to do with themselves once the original rationale disappears. The original Cold War-era NATO was a relatively cohesive entity led by one of the two superpowers, with most of its members being the industrialized democracies of Western Europe, with West Germany being its eastern-most European member, and alliance planning revolving around USSR. But even then there were cracks in the alliance. Italy, for example, had nearly no role to play as it did not border any Warsaw Pact country and did not practice deploying its forces to West Germany to practice its defense against the anticipated Warsaw Pact invasion. And while Greece and Turkey were ostensibly part of that alliance as well, in practice they spent more time clashing with one another than planning for joint action against USSR.

The end of the Cold War made the problem of alliance cohesion far worse, for two reasons. One, it quickly added as many members as possible thus greatly expanding its geographical extent, and two, it lost that single unifying factor in the form of USSR. Today’s NATO is a patchwork of mini-alliances revolving around the United States which is determined to replace the alliance aspect of NATO which assumes that all members have interests that are to be taken into consideration, by patron-client relationships.

Not to put too fine a point on it, the goal of the United States is global domination. This goal is shared by the entire political elite and major portions of the population, though it is nearly never discussed openly or directly. Instead, it is framed in terms of “American Leadership”, “New American Century”, and of course “American Exceptionalism” which is used to justify any policy that violates international law, treaties, or agreements. Given that every country which has not recognized “American Leadership” is described as a “regime”, there is no indication the US elite is interested in anything resembling peaceful coexistence with other sovereign states.

NATO plays a double role in achieving that goal. First, it is a military alliance that projects military power against anyone refusing to accept “American Leadership”. Military contributions by European member states are certainly important, not least by giving America the veneer of international legitimacy, but the presence of US bases on the European continent is far more so. US forces stationed in or staged out of European naval, air, and land bases are indispensable to its efforts to control the MENA region and to promote the US policy of driving a wedge between Europe on the one hand and Russia and China on the other. Secondly, a European country’s membership in NATO means a sacrifice of considerable portion of its sovereignty and independence to the United States. This is a wholly asymmetrical relationship, since US bases its forces in European countries and sells its weapons to them, not the other way around. The penetration of a European country thus achieved allows US intelligence service to develop agent networks and to employ the full range of lobbying techniques which have been particularly visible in the US efforts to press F-35 aircraft into the hands of NATO member states.

Arabic media: Israeli cyberattack struck Natanz nuclear facility

The Kuwaiti paper argues that Iran has now lost 80% of its stock of this gas.

Kuwait’s Al-Jarida newspaper, which covers security incidents and sometimes alleges Israeli involvement, says that Israel carried out a cyber attack on the Natanz nuclear facility on Thursday. The incident has been downplayed by Iran but experts say that a sensitive warehouse that deals with centrifuges was damaged.

According to the report a source informed Al-Jarida that a cyber attack hit the facility. The report linked this to an earlier cyber attack on Israeli water infrastructure that Iran allegedly carried out and then another cyber attack on an Iranian port in May. It also links the Natanz cyber attack to the earlier Stuxnet computer worm attack in 2010.

These are coordinated sabotage operations, according to the newspaper. The Natanz incident explosion and another explosion near Parchin targeted UF6 gas storage that was used for uranium enrichment. This is uranium hexafluoride gas.

In November, 2019 Iran unveiled the production and injection of the gas into IR-6 centrifuges. These are the advanced centrifuges Iran has increased at Natanz. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI)’s Ali Akbar Salehi has spoken openly about the gas and the new centrifuges. Iran added around 30 of these IR-6 centrifuges to Natanz in November 2019, making at least 60 in total at the site.

The Kuwaiti paper argues that Iran has now lost 80% of its stock of this gas. “This is likely to be an electronic attack on the computer network that controls the storage compression tanks. Iran will need about two months to compensate for the gas that was lost.”

The Natanz explosion led to a “crack in the reactor building. Specialized groups went to the reactor to discover whether there was leakage in radioactive materials.” Iran says there was no leak at the site.

IED Attack Targeted U.S. Convoy In Deir Ezzor: Syrian State News Agency

On July 3, a convoy of U.S. forces was attacked in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The state-run agency claimed that the convoy was targeted with an improvised explosive device near Issa al-Asmanni gas station in the town of Sabhah. The agency has not yet provided any further information on the incident.

According to Twitter user Status-6, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition claimed that the statement made by the SANA was likely false.

“Any reports about U.S. convoy being ambushed or struck by an IED in Deir Ezzor countryside today are most likely false,” Status-6 quoted Col. Myles B. Caggins III as saying.

Last April, the SANA reported a similar attack on a U.S. convoy in eastern Deir Ezzor. Back then, the U.S.-led coalition denied that any attack took place, calling the statements “fake news.” The SANA didn’t provide any solid evidence to back its claims.

Although no concrete timeline has been publicly announced, the Trump administration has signaled its intention to pull U.S. military forces out of the country. Around 500 U.S. troops are still deployed in northeast Syria, supposedly to counter ISIS and “guard” major oil fields in the region.

'Royally F***ed': Prince Andrew's Relationship With Ghislaine Maxwell Exposed

The arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell, the ‘madame’ of deceased paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, on sex trafficking and perjury charges has inevitably led to increased pressure on Prince Andrew, a close friend of the pair, to speak to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

At a press conference in New York 2nd July, prosecutors laid out the numerous allegations levelled at Ghislaine Maxwell, and urged Prince Andrew to come forward.

“We’d welcome Prince Andrew coming in to talk with us, we would like to have the benefit of his statement. I’ve no further comment beyond what I just said, which is that our doors remain open, as we previously said, and we would welcome him coming in and giving us an opportunity to hear his statement,” said Audrey Strauss, acting US attorney for the southern district of New York.

In response, a source close to the royal said his lawyers are “bewildered” at official demands of assistance, “given we’ve twice communicated with the Department of Justice in the last month and to date had no response”.

Paranoid Andrew

Andrew has made no secret of his connection with Jeffrey Epstein and Maxwell, the latter introducing him to the former. He became a person of interest in the FBI’s probe of Epstein’s international sexual abuse and trafficking network in part due to the testimony of Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced to have sex with him at Maxwell’s home in London when she was 17, around March 2001.

While her claims have been categorically denied by Andrew, a legal action brought in 2015 by Giuffre against Maxwell, in which it was alleged Epstein and Maxwell groomed her for their sexual pleasure, was settled May 2017 in her favour. While details of the settlement have not been made public, Maxwell reportedly paid out millions to Epstein’s victim – and a photo of Andrew and Giuffre, his arm furled suggestively round her waist, proves they met in at least some capacity.

Moreover, numerous mainstream media articles dating to the early 2000s, many of which have curiously since been removed from the online archives of the outlets that published them, lend much further credence to suggestions of a sexual dimension of some kind to Andrew’s relationship with the pair.

For instance, a deleted January 2001 article in the UK Evening Standard, quotes a nameless personal friend of Maxwell and Epstein saying several highly revealing things about their bond with Andrew.

“She's able to entrance anyone she chooses and Epstein can pay for anything anyone wants. She's very manipulative, and winds people round her little finger. The whole Andrew thing is probably being done for Epstein,” they said.

“Ghislaine is manipulating [Andrew] and he's too naive to realise it. She's his social fixer and he's going along with it - why? Because I think Epstein's fantastically impressed by it all. It's all very premeditated,” another ‘friend’ is quoted as saying.

The article in question was of course published the same year Giuffre claims she was introduced to, and had sex with, Andrew, at the behest of Maxwell. She also alleges Epstein subsequently asked her to describe these encounters in detail, to elicit compromising information about Andrew’s sexual preferences.

Trudeau's buddy Gerry Butts wants Facebook to censor your climate change posts

Justin Trudeau's BFF and former advisor Gerald Butts, along with a group of 14 other non-scientists wrote a letter to the former Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt and the Facebook Oversight Board asking them to “take action” by kicking climate change unbelievers off of Facebook.

For context, the social democrat Thorning-Schmidt is one of the four people selecting Facebook's 40 person “free speech panel,” which isn't actually about protecting free speech, but about deciding who gets it, and who doesn't.

Here is an excerpt from that letter:

Facebook is allowing the spread of climate misinformation to flourish, unchecked, across the globe. Coronavirus Victoria: Senior officials axed amid hotel quarantine saga

Multiple senior bureaucrats have reportedly been pulled from Victoria’s hotel quarantine task force in the wake of bombshell accusations against the program.

A statement provided from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) said structures within the department had been “refined”.

“To meet the challenges of (sic) the global pandemic is having on Victorians, the (department) has been involved in delivering services to Victorians in a dynamic and changing environment,” the statement said.

“To assist us continue to deliver these programs, the structures within the department will be refined to continue to support the necessary services we are providing.”

This comes as DHHS secretary Kyn Peake announced the new task force, Operation Soteria, would start on Monday.

According to the Herald Sun, department insiders claim senior bureaucrats that had been previously involved in the quarantine program have not been included in the new task force.

There have been at least 48 cases of the coronavirus linked to two Melbourne hotels being used to quarantine returned travellers since late May.
