Freedom Seeds

by Aspen - ABCU|8 team

Before people started to notice, you felt it. With a little tickle, something awoke in fertile soil at the back of your mind. It's always been there, able to germinate at any time, pending the right conditions.

What quickens a freedom seed? Love. It's really that simple: it responds to love. When did it start? Did you notice the new possibilities first, or were you tired of being stuck in a rut? Or was it the insistent cumulative vibration of hive-mind peers that jolted you out of a suffocating dream?

That's the sound of the great awakening. It's affecting every one of us in unforeseen ways.

Imagine if the world chose a different path, a better path. "Love one another, as I have loved you," Jesus said. Trusting the promise, the seed spontaneously extends toward the light, with neither fear nor longing, only the natural gesture of growth. Bathed in divine radiance, its inner nature silently unfolds, extending into a perceptible presence. In an atmosphere of love, even arrested development must proceed inexorably toward maturity. The luminosity of our love benefits others in unfathomable ways.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." In a burgeoning chorus, your seed hears other seeds activating, like the strident voices of spring peepers singing out from a shallow pond. But we are speaking of an invisible web of the spirit, transporting vibrations of the heart. Nothing can stop what is coming! Our shared dream cannot be crushed or silenced. You are not alone; you were never alone.

Peek into the rear-view mirror at the detritus left behind. Collectively, humanity is turning the page on a reprehensible chapter where evil was allowed to thrive. In darkness, its deeds remained hidden, and it flourished. Its dark coils tightened ever so gradually that we remained unaware. Vampire-like, evil shuns exposure. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing," wrote Edmund Burke. Only now, at the precipice of destruction, do people find the will to change. To prevent the triumph of evil, we must confront the truth of its heinous acts. (And frankly, in an honest examination, we are bound to confront the truth of our own misdeeds and shortcomings too. In this process, we must face our own errors with courage and vow to do better.)

Looking ahead: the best is yet to come. We are the insistent voices, holding fast to an idea: life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. Our nation has drifted far from these fundamental truths. We relinquished God-given rights in favor of cheap entertainment. Unwholesome demands on our time stole our attention and energy. Our compass wavered and we lost our way. We let the Mockingbirds twist words, until the Founders' ideas seemed a dull phantom.

Your root is strong. Allow it to penetrate into bedrock truth.

What is life? You feel it! Didn't the breath of God raise you from inert matter into human form?

What is liberty? Discard the mental shackles! Don't you have the power to create, to imagine, and thereby to change the world?

What is happiness? Is it pleasure or satisfaction? Isn't it the ability to pursue your dreams and decide your own future?

Trust that there are a lot more people good than bad. Evil has no place here. The world will unite in this cause. Ultimately, love is the force that rescues humanity from darkness.
