My mum is type O Rh Negative and she used to give blood for years, it was the type of blood donation you can only give every few months because of the amount of red blood cells they take. It was called something like double red or power red. She even got Christmas cards off them. She also had to have an injection before she had me incase I was Rh positive because a mother with Rh negative blood will produce antibodies to attack a pregnancy that is Rh positive.
