watched a documentary on john d rockefeller this morning. his public image went to shit. workers hated him. the poor overwhelmed him. he was receiving 60,000 letters a month asking for help with money from poor people.
he launched a PR campaign (ledbetter) to restore his image.
they did a bunch of stuff to make him synonymous with handing out dimes. he donated 180m to charity. people loved him again.
seeing the propaganda from back then - it's like damn, how did that even work. but the people of the time bought it.
