Not true. Schipol (essentially Amsterdam) is much closer.

 

However, another anon said Liege is a CAL (shipping) hub and Liege is likely not be nearly as busy as Schipol, which is a very busy hub for civilian traffic.

 

I pointed out last night before that flight was over the Atlantic that I thought it was plausible the payload of that plane was very important.
