>The First Great Awakening was one of two great religious revivals that swept across the American colonies. The Awakening, despite being the most well known, was only a smaller section of a revival sweeping across many parts of Europe. This revival mainly took place in England, Scotland, and Germany. The Awakening can be defined by the focus of shifting to trusting in Biblical Truth, rather than flawed human reasoning.
>PresbyteriansThe Awakening in American began in the middle colonies among the Presbyterians, namely in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The leader of this movement was a pastor named William Tennent. He and his family organized religious revivals across the two colonies. They also established a school whose purpose was to train men to become clergymen and pastors. The trained clergy’s goal was to spread the work of the Tennent’s farther and farther away. The school was called “Log College” then, and it still functions today, under the name of Princeton University.
Third awakening coming soon.
