Can anyone steer me to a count on resignations. I've noted about 40 CEO resignations. I'm wanting to know how many politicians, how many politicians have been taken out by scandal, likewise Hollywood takedowns. Has anyone compiled this or seen an compilation?

I think it might be a little of both, people are a little fickle that way. We all set ourselves up as little gods, we want the world to revolve around us, we're selfish and self-centered.

I think they do believe and they don't.

I'm not saying that, "they might SAY they believe and SAY that they don't". I'm saying, "in part they actually believe but in part they don't because they, as us, all still hold themselves out as little gods. And different people will believe and disbelieve at differing degrees.

We see this in Christianity too, that's why faith is really not treated as if it were an action flowing from feelings, but a rather as a choice, and act of the will. That's why the Bible can condemn someone for not believing, because they are choosing to distance their thinking from an acknowledgement of God, contrary to all logic and the evidence that surrounds them. And of course their behaviour (and feelings) will reflect their decision. NOTE: for all Christophobes, I'm not talking about trusting in an ecclesiastical institution.
