I've seen people bring up the pineal quite a bit around these discussions. The pineal gland is connected to serotonin but when under high stress, the creation process of serotonin also creates endogenus DMT. This creates visions and out of body experiences and can be very profound. These processes and experiences are described in Rick Strassman's book DMT, the spirit molecule.
