I feel your pain. I lost my partner, in part I think from all the sandy hook, orlando, 911 and other rants. Probably not the main reason, but despite being intelligent, she just didn't want to think that deeply or destroy the positive illusion she lived in (she lived well and lots of $….and worked in Cancer med research..) She was pretty defensive of Pharma co.s too….she was high up but not a main player. Too naive to know or accept the bad things. She was even oddly forgiving of the shit they do to dogs (as a dog lover/owner).
