His pre google life was DARPA and during his time with google has been buying up smaller high tech companies and their patents. If he couldn't buy them, he'd just steal them.
I mean we already kinda knew that but while we were all looking at facebook n amazon, Schmidt was and still is into some serious global domination type shit.
