It has to do with how HTML and the underlying web servers make calls. A link might say it is going to one site, but really send you to another one. That second site is usually not good and will mess you, the board and who ever clicks on it up.
By breaking it up, it causes you to copy text (not the link) to your browser, preventing bad things from happening.
