I find it odd that so many are blaming the boomers (using "boomer" to mean baby boomers) and they forget there was another generation between then and now. Gen Xers are the most politically ignorant generation in the history of America. Growing up, maybe 5% of them had any political interests at all. As a gen xer, I can say without a doubt that the Gen Xers bear more blame for our current world than Boomers do.
