Just wanted to point out, that I read a article several weeks ago (triple sourced it) that around the time of the first defections, the PA system in NK was hacked and Played the song; "Its the Final Count Down" by Europe. I can find the sauce if anyone wants to see it. Just found it a strange coincidence. Probably nothing.
That would be the one. Imagining that going off unexpectedly on a PA in NK, always gave me the chills for some reason.

Because reality is subjective. Those who define their identity in a idea (no matter how imaginary it is), will refuse to accept any other reality (particularly if the idea is horrifying). Once they do, reality changes forever and there is no going back.
