Good analysis, I mostly agree Anon. Still, don't go too far the other way.

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psalm 2:10-12

Psalm 2 is the most quoted Psalm of the NT. I don't think fearing God means just means to reverence God. You better submit and fear before him - submit before he gets angry and destroys you, because He has the power and right to do so. Submit quickly and recognize His power and authority. That is the correct sense of "fearing" God. So not disagreeing, just pointing out that yes, God really is to be feared. In a good way - those that trust in him will be blessed. So the fear of God goes two ways, you raise him in your sight and you lower yourself in your own sight. You must do both.

I count you a brother in Christ and did not mean to provoke a fight or debate. I sought to clarify a point in love, and can see how my comments might have raised other questions that should be addressed lest my words be misconstrued.

Still, with regard to your reference, I remind you that St Peter said this: Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 1 Pet 2:17. Peter said to fear God. I gave you a sense in which that should be interpreted in a manner that is consistent with Ps 2 and all of God's word, both OT and NT. I think that men of good conscience toward God can reconcile all the Scripture we have cited. God bless you brother, I will not discuss this further with you.
