There is probably more than one way to skin a cat, as the saying goes. While the normal UI option might be removed, it may be possible to still 'command' a trip code. Q has to enter it, somehow, without creating an account or fixing his IP to a single one.

Interesting that the people trying to fake the old trip are looking not to demotivate, but to instill fear/helplessness. The proverbial 'they' are feeling the pressure.

Yes, actually.

Password security is seen as something with an expiration date. The nature of trip codes makes even a standard dictionary attack take months to break as each attempt must be passed to the server.

Thus, the name of a show works. Further… it is a breakable trip code. The doctionary attack will eventually succeed… and as it is paraded around as a 'success' - it's actually planned that you would succeed in breaking it.

Sometimes, the easy meals are a trap, young grasshopper.

Chasing the Matlock rabbit:

U.S. versus Matlock is a rather relevant SCOTUS ruling on searches and seizures. Doubtful this is exactly what Q was pointing at, but it is a nice collateral to catch in the splash.

That has been floating around for a few days on the blogosphere. To be fair… that is the only place something like that will show up, for now, but I am not seeing much that is solid.
