/badguys/, if doing cracking privately, would still need to set up their own private board and provide passcode inputs using all exploitation methods known to them. While this could all be scripted, it wouldn't operate the same as brute-forcing a Windows SAM. Posts/outputs would still have to be individually verified (still could be scripted).

I think I'm with you on this. One day, we may know how it was done. The fact that it took months to crack "Matlock" tells us something about their inefficient methods, whatever they may be.
