Yes there was computers down on the west coast to check passports, for several hours there were no planes leaving the west international, I'm sure it was just a lot of planes jacked up on the ground, think a plane at a gate for boarding and it can't, plane lands needs that gate sits on tarmac, next plane lands for that gate 1/2 later.
Probably there was more tarmac space at LAX then SAN
